Anyhow, is it just me, or have most of the used-to-be interesting threads gone a bit flat lately?
Fnord, you complained that these days I've become all boring and am just doing chatty personal threads. But really, there doesn't seem to be much else going on right now.
This is, of course, why I am pestering you all on this thread.
ho hum,

Hi az (and Fnord, Alji, and anyone else who's lurking)
How's life treating you all?
Looks like I'm going to be a free agent round about early January. Then one or two bits and bobs to tidy up, and then, all being well....
Hootoo's like that; sometimes too much going on to keep up with, other times not much at all.

hi Noggin,
Life's okay over here.
Sounds like you will be doing quite well with a new life in the new year. Good for you!
Yeah, things are rather slow here on hootoo. Might take a break.
keep well,

hi Noggin,
I seem to talk to so many people here on h2g2. And sometimes I talk to so many people that it makes me feel even lonelier than ever. I don't ever feel lonely when I talk to you because I think you actually listen.
I had to cancel two of my classes this aft because of a panic attack - suddenly I just wasn't able to leave my house.
Am feeling better now and so will be able to do my two evening classes - will have to leave in a few minutes.
It's hard to tell people when you are not feeling perfectly fine and okay because I think this makes them feel somehow uncomfortable. But if you can't tell anybody about this stuff, then what?
Well, off to play Pictionary with my evening students. It's the first class of the year so I am starting them off easy with a game.
How are you doing?

az, I had a panic attack whilst driving a Transit van. I managed to get to a car park but I couldn't move a muscle by the time I stopped. I thought that if I stopped breathing I'd die.

hi Alji,
Really? Oh, I know all about panic attacks since I have had them since I was about 14 years old.
So, you know what I'm talking about then? Just this sudden inablility to function.
Boy, it really pisses me off when this happens, and I always feel that *somehow* I should be able to cope and 'get over it'. And sometimes I can. Other times, like yesterday, there was just no way.
The hardest part is trying to explain this to other people. Like I had to call my doctor students at the hospital yesterday and just say - I'm very sorry but for some reason I cannot leave my house!
My panic attacks are not so much about dying, but more about like I am suddenly about to go totally mad and lose all connection to this world that I think I am living in. Scares the bejesus outta me.
Hey, thanks Alji. I now don't feel so quite alone with this very strange phenomenon.
kisses,
az

Alji,
Thinking about it, you *would* actually die if you stopped breathing, so maybe your panic attack was quite logical. Or were you just teasing?

az, I was hyperventilating and the oxygen/carbon dioxide ballance in my blood was causing the problem. I should have stopped breathing to increase the carbon dioxide level and bring it back to normal.
I couldn't open my hands to get them off the steering wheel and the rest of me was in the foetal position. My hands had to be pulled off the wheel so they could get me out of the van.

Alji,
How awful. Did this happen just the one time? I tend to stop breathing when I get a panic attack, so I have to concentrate on 'remembering to breathe'.

Eh? What's with all the name changes! This is too confusing! Alan-Alji-Alan-Alji... this could take some getting used to.
