Noggin,
Do you preview and re-read and re-write your postings much? Or just write and post?

Since Noggin appears to be dead, I'll aswer for myself. Generally while I type errors leap out at me, and since I pride myself (generally again) on trying not to take advantages of this system and be like I'd be in real life, nonsensical postes du passion and all, I don't often change the basic thing unless it's offensive. How about you?

Az, what screen size are you using on your 'puter?
Oh, and what skin are you using?

I'm sure Noggin is *not* dead, just resting.
Need you ask what *I* do?
Just write whatever comes into my head and then - ping! - post it without even checking that my smileys have come out properly.
Actually, am thinking I should change this technique (or rather, NON technique). Especially the one of posting loads of stuff after a few glasses of wine late at night and then waking up the next moring thinking - oh...my...god...WHAT did I say?
On the other hand, keeps things perky.

hi Alji,
My computer screen is 17" and I use alabaster.
Why?

Alji,
Oops, sorry, misread your original question.
I just checked and it says 600 x 800.

ps
Jane is on msn and asks that you stop asking me technical questions just as our conversation is reaching new heights. In fact we were discussing country and western music (sort of) and anyhow, she's gone off to get another beer, so why do you want to know this?

Alji,
It's 1.15 am and I simply MUST go to bed.
So now I am going to be wondering all night (probably won't sleep a wink!) about *why* you needed to know my screen setting.
Gee thanks for that.
buenas noches,

Alji,
ummm, okay.
But what is the advantage of 1024x768 ?

Alji,
Hmmmm. . .not sure if I like this. It's kind of weird. Also, it's not centred properly on the screen, there are black strips on top and on the left (before the black strip went all around).

Also, not being centred means that it's hard to access the right hand scroll bar and the 'off' thingy.

Do I preview, reread, and rewrite my postings?
I preview for unfamiliar smileys and for links, otherwise not.
I checkread for spelling, typos and grammar as I go along; and in serious debate I rewrite if I'm not happy with the final result.
That's why I take so long about it.
Typical anal retentive, compulsive/obsessive introvert really.

'Measured and thoughtful' sounds much nicer and says pretty much the same thing, doncha think?
Well, I think from now on I am going to at least re-read my postings before I send them off. Gee, I can almost hear all my posting recipients heaving a huge sigh of relief.
Just finished my last class for the day - phew!

My girlfriend - sorry, make that EX-girlfriend - has, on the few occasions I've made her set it to 1024x768, hated it. She doesn't understand the advantages and whatnot and just says it's too small.

azahar Posted Sep 15, 2003
Fnord,
Okay, explain the advantages to me then! I also think it is a bit too small. Also there is the problem of the page not being properly centred.

It allows you to fit more information on one screen, with better graphics that look closer to real-life standards than pixellated series of boxes. And how to sort out the border is: on your monitor (screen for the incompetent), there should be a few buttons, one marked "mode" or "menu" or "select" or some Spanish equivalent. Fiddle around; either a button'll have some kind of effect on the length, width, shape and placing of the black border, or the menu button'll bring up a "menu" on screen to do it.
