Spynxxx Started conversation Sep 18, 2005
Hello Azaher,
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Spynxxx and the majority of my time on site is devoted to the furtherance of creative writing. For the most part I haunt the Alternative Writing Workshop as I am a miner for the UnderGuide, sifting through poetry and prose in search of that which may inspire my fellow researchers.
As much as I cherish that title and my role in the greater scheme it is under another title that I come to you this day, that being Deputy Campaign Director for the Ozark Party and the Hypatia for President campaign.
As you are no doubt aware, there is an election brewing and I come to you seeking support for our cause. We of the Ozark Party feel that there is the potential for great good in strong and compassionate leadership, one with the best interests of this site and all the researchers whose enthusiasum brings life to it as its prime motivation.
Others are treating this election as nothing more than another game, a chance to goof off to the tune of a political RPG and frankly, that is a shame. The potential that this office holds for each and every one of is is not to be taken lightly and rest assured, we are dead serious in our efforts to see it used for the greater good.
If I may ask, please take a moment to view the Ozark Party Platform at A1341109. It will quickly become apperent that we are all about substance, cutting through the fluff and standing firm in our beliefs. And these are indeed beliefs worth standing for, honesty and equality for each and every researcher our guiding principle. And as the officially endorsed party of The UnderGuide there is a legitimacy behind these words that we are bound by honor and commitment to uphold.
Of course there is no doubting the integrity of our cadidates. Hypatia is much beloved throughout the community, her work as both poet and storyteller having earned her a place of honor in the UnderGuide archives, not to mention in our hearts as well. And let us not forget that she is a mainstay of The Post with her feature column 'The Cranky Gardener', a fixture valued beyond measure by so many in the community(even members of the competition if truth be told)
And then there is Jodan who runs as her second. A man with his finger on the pulse of every major group on site, active in each and every one. As the Chief Editer of The UnderGuide he is instrumental in organizing a weekly Front Page effort, one carried out with such profesionalism as is seldom found without the backing of a paycheck. And with nearly 100 EG entries and a scout himself he certainly understands the primary mission of this site like few others. A visit to his space is awe inspiring to say the least.
These are dedicated people with noble goals, people with all of our interests at heart. And you have the power to help this cause. By simply visiting the Hypatia for President headquarters at A5645531 and declaring your support you can make a difference. We all have a voice and I ask that you please, please use yours by adding to the chorus of like minded folk who've already pledged support. And really, having seen the truth in what I say how in good conscience could you do otherwise.
Whether you decide for or against know this. To not have asked such a respected researcher as youself would have been unforgivable. I thank you ever so much for your time in reviewing this missive and I sincerly hope to see your name added to our ever growing roster soon.

With equal respect I'm afraid I'm going to have to go all Switzerland on you and declare myself a neutral zone as far as these elections are concerned.
I do appreciate the noble goals of your party (especially compared to a lot of the nonsense I've seen about) but I don't feel that I can affiliate myself with any particular party because I don't really feel that involved with this whole election thing.
I also appreciate your glowing words about me being a 'respected researcher' and sincerely hope it wasn't just a cut & paste job.
Best wishes and good luck!

I respect and understand your desire to remain neutral and honestly, I had expected just such an answer.
And with the same respect I can assure you that each and every word expressed was straight from the heart. Any less would be an insult to both you as well as the campaign I represent and to put it in modern vernacular "That's not how I roll"
Thank you once again for you consideration as well as your kind reply. Oh, and before I go one thing. Though The UnderGuide is endorsing a political party does not mean that the institution itself is political. Please, feel free to visit at any time to enjoy some of the finest writing to be found anywhere on this site

As an almost universally un-respected researcher if you send me enough cash (and it doesnt take a lot) I will besmirch the good name of your party of choice by affiliating myself with it.

I have to say that Spynxxx is *almost* getting to me with his/her seemingly genuine talk about me being someone they consider worth having in their camp.
Though I wonder why they thought I was going to refuse . . .
Anyhoo, none of this would affect my opinion of the Underguide, which I think is a very valuable and interesting part of h2g2.

I still think you should stand under the "Az Cabal" banner....

No way, FB, I am the most unpolitical person you can imagine.
And as I said to you elswhere, I prefer to control my subjects via the various mind-control options I have at my fingers ends . . . no need to ever 'elect' me . . .

You may rest assured in the knowledge that I am at all times genuine in each and every word. It's a point of honor with me and I take it most seriously. So when I say that having you in our camp as a supporter adds greatly to the legitimacy of what we are trying to achieve you can know that it is the truth and nothing but the truth.
As to my initial thoughts on why you might refuse it is simply this. You are among the elite on site, a person who is respected in circles far and wide and with friends in all the far flung corners and nitches that hootoo holds. This lead me to the assumtion that you would prefer to remain neutral so as not to offend any of your far ranging friends, that being the usual way it goes in R/L.
Of course I had hoped and continue to hope that maybe, just maybe, you might join our Cause. It's a simple fact that somebody is going to be elected and just as in R/L it is in everyone's interest to have the best candidates actually win. As to who's the best is an individual decision, an informed choice if you will and as you and I both know there really is only one choice that can be made in good conscience.

PS-Your opinion of The UnderGuide continues to show that you are of sterling charactor and fine judge of quality as well

Well, now I *know* you're having me on. However, after reconsidering the matter (and in spite of your outrageous flattery!), I have decided to join the Ozarks BUT ONLY IF:
- you stop spelling my name with a capital 'a'
- you tell me how to pronounce Hypatia
- you and Hypatia add your photos to my photo gallery
As for Ferrettbadger, don't worry, he'll be joining too (he just doesn't know it yet ).

Yippeeee!!!! It feels like I've scored the winning goal/run/basket/touchdown or my personal favorite, taking the checkered flag in anything with wheels and and engine
Now on to request granting
1- Practice makes perfect so azahar, azahar, azahar three times and correctly. I always capitalize out of respect just like Miss Manners says, though it seems to me that if she dropped the formality a tad and let down her hair she might get a few dates and with luck become Mrs. Manners
2- How to say Hypatia? We had two or three threads going in a debate over that one not but a couple months gone to the tune of better than 200 replys. Hypatia says it is in the greek form and therefore prononced hip-pot-a, but the majority of us considered it to be hi-pay-sha. Though she thouroughly defended 'her' way, in the end it was found that she was mistaken and a truce was called. So it is up to personal taste in the end, though I must confess to be of the hi-pay-sha clan myself
3- Pictures? But why? We've only just succeeded in getting a picture of Hypatia for our campaign so I (or someone more computer literate) shall find a way to get it from here to there. A picture of me may be a deal breaker though as there are none. Seriously.
I haven't allowed a picture of myself to be taken in years, even to the point of breaking out ancient religious beliefs about soul stealing and such to avoid them. Not that I believe that but it certainly stops most folks dead in there tracks
So, barring the totaly unavailable picture of yours truly do we have a deal? I'll even say pretty please and leave a
on your doorstep though no
as it would get cold anyway.

Oh all right, Hypatia's photo will do (you ol' smooth talker) - one was sent to me by Jodan.
Hmmm, I've been pronouncing her name 'hip-pa-tya', which is how it would be pronounced in Spanish. I find I do this more and more - when I see a word I don't know how to pronounce I use Spanish pronunciation as it's pretty much phonetic.
So, is my name on the list yet? I wanted to be after Dealer . . .
s to see . . .

Quicker and slicker, Trin.
Nah, it was mostly because nobody had approached me at all before this and so I first got prodded into thinking about getting involved in the elections (previously I hadn't considered doing so) when Spynxxx first visited me here.
And once I got over the massive flattery stuff (Jodan assures me that Spynxxx is genuinely like this all the time) I just started thinking it might be fun to get involved.
