life is good. a bank holiday weekend that darrenwasn't working. for the squeamish amongst you, the next bit of this will involve ...feet
...yes, those things that live just beneath my ankles. escape while you can
...
walking past the local beauty parlour yesterday with darrenon our way to the greasy spoon for a fry-up, i stopped to read the price list in the window. the chappy saw me and rushed out with a leaflet and price guide for me. as me and his nibs
wandered down the road, he asked what i was thinking of having done and would it need a second mortgage(just kidding
). i said the spa massage and pedicure sounded nice. he asked how much. 23 quid i replied. here's 23 quid he said. have it
. so we had our fry-up and then went back. i didn't have to book an appointment and boy did i get my money's worth.
ok, so my feet aren't the nicest feet in the world. not by a longshot. but after i had foot spaedfor a while, the chap(who was japanese and had limited english-and i had even less japanese)was surprised, as was i at the sheer volume of dead skin he grated off(you know-those thingies like little parmesan graters). in the end he had to resoak my feet in the spa and then start razoring off the hard skin. i think i blunted the blade.
anyway, after god knows how many layers of epidermis were scrubbed off and the soles of my feet were actually soft(!), i had a lovely foot massage that started at my toes and went all the way up to my knees. then he started on my toenails, cuticles softened, pushed back and trimmed off, nails filed, buffed and polished. bliss.
then while my toenail polish was drying i thought i'd have a manicure, hand and lower arm massage and fingernail polish. i have decided i like being pampered. in spite of the fact the manacurist/pedicurist spoke hardly any english, he was able to tell me off for not using basecoat under my nail polish.
all in all i spent 36 quid(ok 13 quid and darrenpaid the rest), but i got about 2 hours worth of sheer indulgent bliss out of it.

it's alive!

well, i've managed 2 weeks without going sickand work seems to be going well. i've learnt the important things, like where the pub
is, the local shops and cashpoint locations etc, oh, and how to do my job
.
on wimpey i have a training course on the computer system they are going to install as part of ctmp(courts and tribunals modernisation programme), in january there's a 5 day residential course at thorpe park hotel and spaon management skills. and there's a 2 day course in november on managing performance in your team. i foretell a case of writers and notetakers cramp coming on...
the animals are all ok. pigletand kanga
get on really well now. piglet does have a tendancy to use kanga as a pillow though. aero is happy, he was fed a few days ago, and the heat is agreeing with him. quaffle and bludger are their usual hamster selves. did anyone see that entry on hamsters the other day? it was pretty good. oh, and darren
is happpy. today is his last day of work for 3 weeks. i've got another week to go and then i'm off for 2 weeks. it's his birthday on 2nd sept, and we go off on holiday on the 5th to cornwall. hurrah
!

ok, so i'm not as well today as i thought i'd be. i phoned in to work(again)and feel really bad about being off. but i didn't realise how exhausted i was until yesterday. because of the cold and the heat i've not done much round the house, well,
all would be a more accurate description, but yesterday was animal cage cleaning day. darren
moved ratty towers out for me so i could clean it out, and then put it back. i then did bludger's single storey home, sat on the sofa for a quick break and next thing i know, darren
is waking me up. then i did quaffle's cage. it was blasted knackering. then as it was about 9ish, we sat in the back garden and chatted to claire, stuart and toddler loren from next door(they are also the eevvviiillllll ones who infected me-but very good neighbours
)for a while. and then loren ran through the lawn sprinkler, got soaked and decided she wanted cuddles
. darren
and stuart were on the beer, claire had a glass of
and i had a
. the caffine didn't stop me from falling asleep in front of the tv.
i'm hoping the weekend will provide enough recuperation time so i can return on monday in the rudest of health.

vocal harmony
Posted Aug 7, 2003
thank goodness, my voice came back yesterday evening! the taste buds are still muted somewhat, and the nose is still bunged, the cough slightly less racking, i'm going to live
!
ok, so i wasn't in any true danger of shuffling off this mortal coil as it were, but this bugs's been bloody nasty all the same!
yesterdays newspaper reports on how thousands of workers are throwing sickies 'cos it's so hot hasn't helped much. at least i spread some germs round on monday. i, on the other hand have been flinging windows open and keeping curtains closed and wondering round the house in a pair of flipflops
. there is a dressing gown at the ready in case someone ignores the quarantine notice on the gate and knocks at the door.
i think i should be fit enough to brave public transport tomorrow and actually go to work. i might make it to the shops at the end of the road for some essentials like bread and milk today. i went to make toast for breakfast and something growing on the bread waved at me.
i shall leave you with that oh so lovely thought

germ warfare

i started my new job on monday, it just so happened that i also woke up with a streaming cold. i went in, tried not to infect everyone, and left at 4pm(a tad early). yesterday i couldn't go in as i felt worse(and i didn't realise that was possible)and had a nasty cough too, and this morning woke up and found that i have misplaced my voice during sometime in the night
.
to say that i'm not impressed is an understatement. to even guess what they're thinking is unthinkable. at least i've already done 19months in the court service, so i'm not on probation. but it's annoying anyhow
.
if anyone has any remedies, i am willing to try themor
.
