Welcome to the club Montse!

It seems we 'punx' are a very international lot. Let's go and burn some flags eh?

Hiho, back again!

Now that I have no job anymore I start to walk the streets of Frankfurt really looking like a Punk Rocker... together with my boyfriend and his mate, sharing our clothes (which gives me the chance to wear bondage trousers for the first time since 15 years smiley - smiley).

Feeling good and much younger... smiley - winkeye

Welcome Montse. I'll add your name to the list of members soon.

I love walking the streets looking punk, especially if it's in the middle of the night. I don't have a punk hair cut though - stupid school rules smiley - sadface

I have the next month off on study leave though so hopefully I'll have lots of time for music and maybe start on a zine (after not having time to produce one during school time with my friends.)

What is your book about Greta, I'm intrigued.

Mine is always a mess. Does that count?

Certainly!

I'd contend that fluorescent mohawks stopped being punk in around 1978, though...

Gargh, Mowhawks have been comandeered by idiots these days. I blame David Beckham and that guy from Coldplay. Or do I mean Travis?

I think a nice big coloured mowhawk is still pretty punk looking - not that that means much. I guess it's about looking different, which certainly applies to a multi-coloured tri-hawk.

My hair is messy and untidy, mainly because I don't care (punk rock!) rather than because I'm trying to look stylish.

....smiley - cool thanks for the welcome smiley - cool

maybe it's more about just cutting the crap on the charts and having your own record collection, maybe about adoring bands that never made to any top and never will, and now 20, 30, 40 years later some come along and take the number 1 spot. and get loaded take credit they don't deserve !

Bah !

I don't care if you wear a suit or ripped jeans, I don't care about if you work in an office or you are on the dol, I don't care, the way someone looks has nothing to do with the love for music and punk rock , just if you are really passionate about it, not for one day but for life...

and one more thing .... To those who keep reffering a new band like the sound like The Ramones, or The Pistols or The Replacements or anything remotelly similar please do buy the real thing : smiley - biggrin

Yes, you simply must.To hear the pistols now is just such fun!!! In the early eighties I used to walk around wearing a silk dressing gown black bikers boots skin tight black jeans, a tiny tartan skirt and quite often a pork pie hat .

Montse and Lady Lowena - I've added your names to the list of punks of the main page. You're now 'official' members smiley - ok

I also added a 'Websites for the punx' section to the page. If anyone has any links they'd like to add, then I'll gladly put them up. Shameless self promotion of bands etc. is always welcome.

What you guys been up to ? any music you are listening right now ?

I wanted to ask you what do you think of Vynil ? do you use it ? I wanted to buy a record player but I am affraid that most of the shops will sell scratch LP's (which is the most annoying thing !!) smiley - grr

What do you recon ?

Vinyl - I love it! I resisted CDs as long as I could, and invested in a decent record player just about at the time when they stopped being included in the average hi-fi. And I think punk's an analogue medium, anyway, far more suited to the raw sound of a vinyl record rather than a digital CD. You can pick up loads of stuff much cheaper secondhand, and any decent secondhand record shop will let you examine the record for scratches.

My girlfriend has 'Zen Arcade' by Husker Du on a gatefold doulbe album on transparent vinyl - how cool is that? A CD just wouldn't compare...

However, that said, I do tend to listen to my CDs a lot more than my vinyl, simply because it's easier to get at and I'm too lazy to get up and change a record over halfway through... But I do much prefer albums being split into 'Side 1' and 'Side 2'.

Oh, and at the moment I'm listening to 'Super Black Market Clash'... on CD!

The best tracks are 1-2 Crush on You (an early song written before Joe Strummer joined the band) and a brilliant instrumental remix of Rock the Casbah, which is fantastically called 'Mustapha Dance'.

I agree with Number Six completely, vinyl is a lot better. The sound quality is much better, and I'd rather listen to well loved scratched vinyl than a perfect CD.

Also, with vinyl you get lovely big artwork, especially with gatefold albums. The inside of my Reagan Youth album just wouldn't look as good in a CD booklet. Coloured vinyl can be cool too, although I don't go out of my way to pay more just so that I get a coloured record. My favourite colour is probably clear blue.

Don't worry about buying scratched records - if you're buying new records, which are surprisingly easily available, they'll be in mint condition anyway, and very few of the second hand records I have are scratched enough to affect the sound quality.

The scratches are part of the fun anyway! Quite often I would here something on the radio and the song sounded quite different!!!!!

I love the scratches - it makes me feel that the record and I share a part of our history and life...
