Maybe I'm not very progressive, but I love OK Computer and absolutely detest Kid A, it drives me nuts.
Still, all kudos to Radiohead for providing people with a conversational topic akin to that of "cat people/dog people". I'm a Pablo Honey-era fan, while one of my best friends has only started liking them since Kid A. That's where we found out how different our personalities actually were!
The only other similar dilemma I can remember is the feud between Richey-era and post-Richey Manics fans (I was the former, but I never did resent the latter).

I'm torn between The Holy Bible and Generation Terrorists. They never wrote anything as cool as Stay Beautiful again.

Well, I've *always* thought Radiohead were a bit dull, whichever side of the line you saw them from. As for the manics, well, the only two of their songs that i can actually remember are If You Tolerate This... and Kevin Carter, which I think is worthy of The Clash.
I see La Frischmann has revealed her true colours at last talking almost sense about Brasilia on some architecture programme the other night. Blimey, how rock'n'roll can you get?
As for the Pistols being Poseurs, well, they were a band put together by a manager and groomed for enormous sucess...the take that of their day. As for Lydon and his money, I wouldn't let him hear you talk that way - it was only a few years ago that he sucessfully sued malcol McLaren for £1,000,000 in unpaid royalties, so my guess is whatever he has been living on it's not been the Pistols royalties. Besides, what he said about the Filthy Lucre tour hasd a ring of truth - 'It's time we made some money out of us. After al, everybidy else has.'

Let's not forget that Lydon was in PiL - fantastic band, that. And he also made a supercool single with Leftfield.
Justine was my role model when I was in my twenties. She changed my life

PiL had their moments - Metal Box was a brave thing to attempt, though towards the end they got very silly and dull. Album/Casette/CD has breathtaking moments, and not many would have had Lydon's courage to bring on board Ginger Baker.
A band marked more by a succession of great tracks on so-so albums than by a great body of work. Still, all of it was somewhat better than anything the Lydon-less Pistols achieved.
As for Elastica, well, the first album has three or four classic tracks on (Connection, Car Song, Vaseline) but it maybe owes just a little too much to Wire to be a truly great album. Stands up better than Camden's other arch liggers Lush though...

Oh no, I'm addicted to boys, me
Kelly was cool before she put out an album. Now she's just another celebrity daughter having a shot at fame just cos she can, and she's not cool anymore. I concede that the fact that she's plump (not fat; Camryn Manheim is fat, Kelly is plump) and carries herself with grace is a plus. She is very annoying, though. It's like she's trying to be a miniature Courtney Love.

i think that shes been told that shooting her mouth off is funny. it is. just not when she does it. shes so artless. and she thinks that giving the finger is a sign of rock star excess. grr.

*skips over huge backlog*
Amnesiac is probably my favourite album - the guitar stuff on OKC was good, but the Bends and Pablo Honey are a bit boring. I used to listen to them quite a lot, but not so much anymore. I'd pay a reasonable amount to see them live, but throw too much money at it.
I've heard one Seafood album and can't say I thought it was that great. I'm currently deciding whether I like the White Stripes.
I'll download some songs in a minute if my 56k will let me, Mr T

I've never heard Seafood. I'll have to see if I can download some and check 'em out. That's why I love this discussion so much, I can keep learning of new bands I haven't heard yet!
I absolutely love Siouxsie, I think she's brilliant and has a gorgeous voice. Although her voice was really rough, I love Wendy O. Williams, I really dug her attitude. Oh, and I thinkPoly Styrene (X-Ray Specs) and Ari Up (Slits) are pretty cool too. I'll probably have tomatoes thrown at me for that.

I saw Radiohead once, at the Stoke Wheatsheaf with about 100 other people. It was just around the time 'Creep' was released for the first time. I thought they had one interesting song (i.e. Creep) that was a bit of a gimmick, and everything else was just blah blah blah slow bit fast bit slow bit whine whine whine.
My overall conclusion was 'decidedly average indie band from Oxford' and nothing they've done since has persauded me to change my mind, except to add the suffix 'who got lucky and became huge in the USA'. I still don't understand how that happened, either.
But I think a lot of that opinion is because of this:
You know when you're somewhere between sixteen and eighteen, and you've been going out to pubs and gigs for quite a long time, and then one day you run into someone two or three years below you at school and you think "what the hell are you doing here? you can't be, you're just a kid..."? (while, of course, conveniently denying the fact that only a very short time ago you were them, and other people thought the same things about you) Nevertheless, nothing they ever do can really stop you thinking of them as 'just a kid', and because of this you will not really rate anything they ever do, because you were doing and thinking similar things to them but did them first... well, that's me and Radiohead.
Incidentally, Thom Yorke (and why 'Thom', by the way? pretentious arse or what?) once said they stopped doing guitar stuff because they ran out of Pixies albums to rip off.
I don't think Radiohead are a bad band, actually... it's just that to me they seem phenomenally over-rated, and there are far better, 'realer' bands out there that you can manage a much closer connection with.
But apologies to anyone out there who's a huge Radiohead fan - I'm just a didgy old ...

The song Creep, and pretty much all of Pablo Honey, is whining. It's crap, and I doubt that the band are particularly please with it themselves.
I dunno though, I do quite like the new stuff. I think the songs are quite good and not boring if played in the right circumstances. I guess it's a matter of personal taste really, and whether you think it's depressing or not
As for being pretentious, I don't know. I've never met the band or seen them live so I wouldn't know if they're pretentious on a personal level. In terms of music I suppose pretension is always an accusation that will curse anyone trying to do something a bit different. If you think their music is meaningless crap (which Creep and PH certainly were) then I guess Radiohead are pretentious, but then it's all too easy to accuse a band who are genuinely trying of being pretentious arses.
Anyway, I'm more into the Ramones and Reagan Youth than Radiohead (even though Radiohead are listed as being my favourite band, and I have a quote of theirs on my space ) at the moment.
I'm having an argument with a friend - was Mike Ness in Social Distortion or Suicidal Tendencies? Does anyone know? I say the former...

Mike Ness was with Social D- one of my all-time faves for sure. Love his solo stuff too, 'Cheating At Solitaire' is a great album!
