Hey, Skugga, I'm fairly certain that the Sinead O'Connor song you're thinking of is 'Troy'. Awesome tune, it gives me chills too!
I don't care much for either Alanis nor for Avril, but 'You Oughta Know' is a great, angry tune. Now Kim Deal and Kim Gordon are more my speed, too.

Other supercool women in rock: Zia McCabe of The Dandy Warhols (who is wont to go onstage naked despite not being a size nothing), Cristina Martinez of Boss Hogg (cor! She's about the only woman I'd sleep with, especially if she brought her husband along... the lucky lass happens to be married to Jon Spencer), Tanya Donnelly, Kristin Hersh, PJ Harvey, Meg White, all of L7.
More?

I think all the bases are covered there - only one left I can think of is Brodie (can't remember full name) from The Distillers.

I'm sure there are more. Jennifer from Royal Trux. D'Arcy who used to be in Smashing Pumpkins. Gwen Stefani, in her own way. Paz who is in Zwan and has a smile a mile wide.

ahem...
The one and only Siouxsie Sioux?
She's so away from anything, and she's so arrogant (at least, when I saw her ages ago, she was) - but she's gorgous...
And just remember her voice!

I think I'd rather be forced to listen to the collected works of Garbage than have to listen to another Alanis Morrisette song...
And that is in no way to be considered an endorsement for Garbage, who were a singularly appropriately named band.

And - *slightly off topic* - never trust a nose, ear and throat specialist... *still ouches* Don't try this at home, people, nor even dare to go there.... *is at home again since 40 m*

How could I forget Siouxsie...
I don't mind Shirley Manson, but I don't feel she is terribly cool. She comes across as trying too hard. Kelly Dayton of Sneaker Pimps, however, was an entirely different kettle of fish. She got kicked out of the band for being too cool, and where are Sneaker Pimps now?
Skin of Skunk Anansie is well cool too.

MM, pity about the noise the band though.
I saw Skunk Anansie just before they broke big, supporting the late lamented Senser. They were brilliant. Everything they've ever produced record wise has been a sad a sorry dissapointment...

No sometimes it doesn't come across does it. Its a fine band who can capture the spirit of live and release it in a studio setting. Although I don't like em much now U2 used to be able to do it every time.

I think the difficulty with SA was that people just tried to produce them. The undoubted success of the Damned Damned Damned for example, as a prime example of great live band capturing spirit on vinyl was Nick Lowe's (lack of) production technique - he allegedly brought in a gallon of cider, told the band to play everything as loud as possible and sat back and di nothing...

Radiohead used to be killer both on record and live, but I haven't seen them play since 1996. They've gone all dark and disturbing and electronic since, and I was one of the people who felt betrayed by Kid A. I'm still hanging on to the hope that one day they'll revert to the old Way of the Guitar... I really miss their sound.

I've just read on a message board that their latest album is more guitar-based and way better than Kid A and Amnesiac.
Here's hoping...

Hey, I used to love Radiohead before they went all paranoid and electronic on me. "Let Down" is one of the greatest songs ever. I mean, this is a band who could afford to toss "Talk Show Host" on a film soundtrack and not include it in the album.
I miss their former brilliance.

Oh no, not another Radiohead debate. But I feel I must join in!
I'm afraid Kid A is my favourite Radiohead album, closely followed by OK Computer. I think the pair suit each other perfectly.
