I have an interview with UCLAN on the 22nd
by which time I need a good portfolio
I shall not panic, I shall not panic...

I've got four computer graphics,
a line drawing of birds and a few sureal scetches
lots more to do,
quick quick
and a woodcraft dragon to paint as well,
oh dear oh dear

Can you submit Computer graphics?

if I've designed and drawen them I sure hope so
I'm putting them in mainly to show that I am compitant with the way art programs like photoshop and gimp work as these do come in handy

I thought you couldn't use Computer graphics, anybody without talent, even me, can draw with a computer

Everyone can draw full stop reef, not everyone can draw well though

at college I meet people that can draw well and yet they don't have an original idea whoch is the most important thing in my opinion.

And yes Reef you can use computer graphics, why else would they have whole courses at uni that do nothing but that after the first year? I even have stuff for my portfolio that are computer graphics as they tell us to use them at college and is just as important in art these days as being able to draw by hand.

What about artists like Jackson Pollock, he couldn't draw does that make him less of an artist than Picasso? Picasso could draw like everyone else could but chose not to, yet he is still considered brillant

How about photographers like Ansel Adams? are their photographs not art? something that can be produced thousands of times? When cameras where first invented there were protests by artists, because anyone could take a picture still can, what they need is the right "eye"

At the end of the day the course she is applying for is art and design, it is all about having the ideas and the right eye for it all. The computer is just as much a tool as a paint brush in this day and age, I don't particually like everything produced on them myself, but they are still art and they are still as designed as the work of Picasso, Warhol, Van Gogh, Michaelangelo, Raphael, Constable, Turner, Lowery and Van Clomp.

And in my own opinion, I feel that people like Picasso, Warhol and DaVinci would have used the computer because of the work they did, as would people like William Blake.

You have to remember also that every book cover and magazine cover these days whether a photo or a painting, has been altered on the computer removing flaws and that too is considered art and design.

Not a dig just the truth in my opinion and many others that I am around on a day to day basis

It's just that I don't think it's fair that people are given places in art college who use computers to draw

I'm not doing it all on computer two or three pieces,
and I beleve that real pices of art will always sell better than computer generated pieces, but computers are an essentual tool for things like editing photographs and doing pieces of art that there is no other medium for,
I prefer to use pencil drawings and i would love to be able to do some good landscapes that would be nice
some fantisy sceans too,..

I've been drawing a little out of dungons and dragons today

still need to paint my dragon

things done on the computer can still insight feelings in those that view them, and is that not the point of art?

think about the amount technicall illistrators get payed, clearly there is a use for the computer in art, even if some would oppose that fact.

look at some of the community art here, is it less art because its on a computer? is the artist less talented because they used a computer? no I think not. we just need to look at things in another way, and broaden our horrisons. after all what dosn't kill us

I think talent is needed to get into Art College, an artist who is talented in computer graphics may be cr@p with pencil and paint and Vice Versa, if you get into college you need talent in both.

Give me a model and I'll paint it to professional standard. Give me a pen and paper and I cant even do a good Lowry. A computers I'm not better - although I've done some photoshopping in my time which is an art in itself (because its bloody hard)

I don't think they were saying they weren't.It's art,it deserves a place in the world,no matter if it's Old Masters or a kid on the computer at home,or with a stick of charcoal and sketch-pad.

I can't really help. I've just recentlly started trying to teach myself to draw good. The key words are "trying" and "good."

I'm not getting at Anth, Kham or any art student, I'm saying it's not fair to admit computer graphics as Art as any idiot can do it

I hear you AD, I can stitch a copy of Starry Night but ask me to draw a version of it and you have no hope

I can't.With me,computers are like men - know how to work them,but not what makes them work.
