The method's not a valid point as to why you should or shouldn't be able to be considered an artist. For example, I think Pollock (basically splashing paint on a canvas) and Matisse (arthritic who created art with scissors) are much more stimulating than say Lowry, who was and still is an over-rated hack. Ask AD, they had us copying Lowry pictures in Primary School, and any ten-year old with the ability to hold a pen can draw bleak matchstalk men.
Besides, using a computer still takes a great degree of dexterity (go on, write your signature on paint and compare it to one done with a pen), and of course an eye for detail and original ideas, which in my opinion (and as it seems, Khamsin's too) are the mark of truly great art.
Just my tuppence worth.

I prefer Lowry to Pollock. At least you can look at Lowry and know hes tried to draw something.
As opposed to Pollock who seems to have splashed paint all over that lovely canvas. You can imagine him painting one day, dropping his brush and then looking at the floor and thinking 'I can sell this to some poor sod'

Art's subjective though innit? Pollock's good as long as it's not meant to mean anything. All it is to me is an expression of random events taking on some sort of abstract form. Plus John Squire copied it to make the cover for a few Stone Roses releases...

Hey, Lorelei, ever thought this so-called 'feud' between AD and myself is perpetuated by people like you and Reef stoking the fire everytime we have a difference of opinion. This is about ART. Art relies on people's VIEWS of a piece. Look at what was said:
Me: "I think Pollock and Matisseare much more stimulating than say Lowry"
AD: "I prefer Lowry to Pollock."
Sweet baby Jesus, hit the deck, WWIII has erupted! Can you believe they see different peices of ART differently!?! Call the UN! Beware for nuclear holocaust! Civilisation as we know it is about to end!
Or not.
Does this mean we're not allowed opinions?

Quote me?? Show my opinions in a repititous fashion in relation to an event that has yet to occur in a thread about comments on art in conjunctions with referances to the United Nations? On the fifteenth of March, the sixtieth Anniversery of the the battle of Iowa Jima, where the twenty one thousand strong Japanesse garrison died to a man (barring two hundred and two cowards), because the americans had bombed them for seventy two days before hand, using planes and battleships, and had lost over two thousand five hundred men trying to capture the mountain on the Island, because they wanted a place to launch bombers? Refer to me as AD in relation to my comments about Jackson Pollock known only by his second name, or as the guy who did the splashing on the canvas, when my comments were not really relevent to the ever lasting condrum of the question that is 'what is art'? All this today, Two days before Saint Patricks day, the celebration of Irish things, and the only excuse to have shamrocks shaven onto various body parts and slow moving animals?
Oh well when you put it like that...
Fair enough then carry on.

The pen. For it is mightier than the sword (but only if the sword is very small and the pen is very sharp).

Her name was Sue
She had hair that grew
all the way from her knees to her fa**ey
and on Saturday nights
by a pale moon light
you could see her comb it quite dandy
not really a limerick but cleaner
