Can I call you Kris ?
Your full title overwhelms me.
Em (I assume that you two have met) goes to the other extreme.
The info. I have from both your replies gives me something to chew on.
For the time being I shall only speak when I am spoken to.
I see that you have got the e before the i in my Nickname which begs a question. Spelling is not on of my strong points. Is there an easy way to 'spell check' a message before it is posted ?
Ancient Brit.

Hi!

Kris is OK..smiley - smiley

Don't worry about the spelling too much - to me, English is a foreign language to me, so don't expect my postings to be gramatically or 'spellwise' correct!smiley - biggrin

There is no spell-check here at h2g2 - I think you'll probably have to use Word or something, and then copy and past the text from there..smiley - erm

One of many reasons for some of us 'foreigners' to joining h2g2 was actually to improve our English - and I think/hope it's working!smiley - bigeyes

And about your user name - I thought it might have been a play with words (people are very fond of that here) with a meaning too subtle for me to understand..smiley - weird

Have fun exploring this place!smiley - flyhi

The only problem with using word processing programs and then copying and pasting is that sometimes some of the punctuation (normally things like inverted commas) gets turned into '&' and a string of numbers. smiley - erm
'tis always worth previewing the post to save smiley - blushsmiley - blush.

On t'other hand, no-one's really that worried about the accuracy of your spelling. Just throw caution to the wind, dive in and enjoy. smiley - biggrin

Now come on Em - (ACE again!) That implies that there was a meaning to your words You chose 'Hola AncientBrit' to reply to but you were my first h2g2 contact <./>http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F93219?thread=193061 Why didn't you make your reply under that entry ? Remember - "I'll be here whenever you need help with something and the secret to h2g2 is just to have fun." Your words not mine. Are you going to abrogate your position as my Ace ?

"Em (I assume that you two have met) goes to the other extreme.

It just seemed a little hostile.

Not real sure Em.
I always was a slow methodical learner.
If you've a day and a half to spare, I'd be glad if you would look at my personal space (3 or 4 minutes)
and my maiden go at conversation 'ID Cards-What's the problem? <./>F19585?thread=194089</.>. That'll take the rest of the day and most of the next.
Would you believe come Xmas I shall be entitled to a free TV License and within the conversation I've had the compliment of being called childish smiley - smiley among other things, that includes a moderation which I suspect had something to do with me.
You'll see why I was a little jumpy when you popped up.

Just going to enter 'conversation' into the search box to see what it reveals. I think I'd rather read than talk.
I'll be back if I get completely lost or sent to Coventry.. smiley - ok

*waves at Em*

Take your time exploring this place, Ancient Brit - I still find places new to me!smiley - bigeyes

I think that a very good way of getting an overview of h2g2 is taking the <./>DontPanic-Tour</.> - but maybe you've already done that?

And don't worry too much about getting lost in the conversation threads - I myself tend to just click reply on the latest posting rather than the one I'm replying to

There are so many places to visit here - is there something specific that you're interested in?

Today is Thursday, and that means there's a new issue of <./>ThePost</.> - check Announcements to find out what's going on

Titania (gone for lunch)

*floating in, in her usual vague, elf-like manner*

Greetings Ancient Brit - I saw you online and thought I'd drop by and say hi!smiley - smiley

I've read through some of your postings, and I think that some of the older researchers might have been a tiny bit annoyed by you trying to teach them how to post - the current BBC House Rules and instructions were written pretty recently comparing to how long some of us have been members of this community - it wasn't always a BBC site...

...I and many with me use the method of just hitting the 'reply' button in the latest posting in a conversation, rather than going back and searching for the one we intended to reply to - especially if we reply to several people in one and the same posting...

...but usually you can see what posting a researcher replied to by the nature of his/hers answer, or by the researcher addressing the person in question...

Becoming a part of the BBC meant several new house Rules, and people weren't all that happy with all of them - so go easy on trying to make people here follow rules or instructions

That said, I hope I haven't discouraged you - this places is in general a friendly place (I've still here after more than 2 years) if you just give it a chance - good luck and have fun!smiley - flyhi
