Very pretty. Looks like you can put just about any flavor into ganache!
I'll be placing the cake order Monday, I guess.
Hope nothing happens to screw this up. Now that the time is drawing closer, it's time for me to panic.

Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Jul 4, 2008
There's no point in panicking, unless you think the adrenalin boost would be a good thing. Anyway - why panic? Whatever happens, there'll be a movie, and cake...

>>Hindu deity finger puppets!
They are! I have a Ganesh and a Kali myself. Hopefully we'll get to Uncle Fun this weekend and they'll have a bunch in stock.

I guess I'll order the bigger cake for $100, as they say it serves 30-40 people and we have 23 positive responses.
We're to take the DVD in question over to the theater a few days ahead of time to make sure it works in their player, so I suppose if they've forgotten about us and for some reason the theater's no longer available that day, we can resort to Plan B and all head over to the lovely Mexican restaurant on the corner, cake and all. Goodness knows we can't fit 23+ people in our place. At least not if they wanted to sit down.

Did the "goodie bags" today.
Uncle Fun was out of Hindu deities.
Instead, we got little bitty plastic musical instruments, play money, plastic whistle-y things, monster and zombie finger puppets, little bitty plastic record albums, little rubber robots/aliens, and some little plastic monster charms. At the party supply shop we got little plastic games with beads in them (the kind you tilt to roll the balls into little holes), little plastic aliens, and a 5 lb bag of assorted candy and gum. We also have enough fortune cookies to stick one in each bag. We made up 24 bags, for everyone who made a positive RSVP. They're ready to go!
The store had cool Chinese take-out boxes for party favors, but those were $1 each and the bags were $2 a dozen so K picked out three different colored packs of bags. I thought the boxes were cooler but they cost a lot more...
All that's left is to order the cake.

Oh- and also we found little mini 3-D glasses, and some tubes of Chinese jelly sweets. Each bag that didn't get a jelly got a set of 3-D glasses. And each bag that didn't get a finger puppet got a high-bouncing rubber ball that looks like an eyeball.
We also threw in plastic spider/ bat rings and realistic-looking rubber cockroaches.

Awesome!
Wish we lived nearer--I'd be crashing your party
G's party is drawing near too, his goodie bags are pirate theme- with pieces of eight, pirate bandana, eyepatch, earring, Jolly Roger balloons and a hook that you can hold inbetween your fingers and the paper covers your hand. I also added some pirate mints, they are wrapped in a Jolly Roger wrapper of course...oh and some pirate pencils.
Thought I'd have a look around the dollar store later today for some other bits and bobs. His cake is ordered. Special request of icecream, and I had one of his pictures with him in his hockey gear on it.

That sounds like so much fun, Vix! When is G's party?
Today's the day. Wish you COULD crash, Vix. We'll be heading out in around 45 minutes. K must be anxious and excited- he was ready at 10:30 and normally he makes us late for everything. The box of goodie bags and accouterments is in the car already. Our friend is picking the cake up and arriving around 1pm also.
The concessions stand will offer a popcorn and 16-ounce soda combo for $4. Not bad. Also they *do* offer wine and Heineken, and those will be half price, $2.50 a pop. K's mom is bringing some chocolate chip cookies so if everyone who didn't respond crashed and there wasn't quite enough cake, we're still covered.
We made up a music CD for background tunes. And I did a cute little photo JPEG to put on the screen and embarrass him, but I used his real name so I won't post a link here. I can send via email to anyone who's interested.

It was fun! Everyone who RSVP'd with a yes showed up except for one, and no one crashed. We've got at least half the cake left, so K's coworkers will love me, too.
K got a giggle out of marquee lettering when we arrived- as did our guests. Nearly all had seen the film before, and love it. Everyone loved the cake and the treats and the idea itself. Some even brought little gifts, including a fancy spiked cowbell and a double-bass pedal for K's drums.
I thought it went well. We were there for nearly five hours and I was billed for just three, plus our hosts comped K's and my popcorn and beverages. How sweet!
K had a ton of fun, and was very, very grateful. He's still just pleased as punch. I'm glad I could do this!
Later on after I get home from work, I have a photo or two of the marquee lettering. I'll upload those and the baby photo to my Picasa page and email a link to those who asked.

That really sounds great, PC! Say hi to K for me and a belated happy birthday, and do send me that link.

We weren't able to play the video you sent at the theater because K's parents and aunts were there and it would have been inappropriate on more than one count. But K and I watched it after you'd sent it. I'd assume a number of our friends would be likely to vote Obama, but I generally avoid discussing politics, etc.
Today's his actual birthday, so nothing belated about it- I'll relate the well wishes.
Upon my arrival at work this morning I found suspiciously little waiting for me, but neither were any of the supplies I left for preparing those quarterly reports used. I hope some bugger didn't save them for me to get back.
