I didn't particularly like "Baraka", either.

If it's sufi-ish stuff, yes please.
Presumably that's the same origin as Mr Obama? I see it means 'blessing'. He's not a Muslim, though.

Combination of World Music, Michael Stearns compositions, bit of Dead Can Dance.
I've also got Passion (Last Temptation of Christ OST) and source material Peter Gabriel used for it.

The trouble I have with Peter Gabriel...whenever he produces anyone Worls Music-y (eg Youssou N'Dour), the end up sounding like... Peter Gabriel.

Update time!
They're pretty tight on Friday and Saturday nights this summer. So. we're going with Sunday, July 27 (the day before K's birthday) at 2 or 2:30 PM. I've decided to go with the regular concessions- offer everything and let our guests pay for their own treats. Just because I expect at least a few dozen people. I'll have a cake delivered as well.
And I'm pretty sure we're going with Stanley Donen's "Bedazzled". That seems like a nice matinée choice, no?
Any other feedback? I'm going to pay the deposit this weekend. And if we want, they'll admit us to this weekend's feature film ("Postal") as their treat.

Uwe Boll's made some absolutely ass movies (though presumably some of them have been watchable?), but if it's complimentary it might be worth attempting...

Invitations went out yesterday, via email. I've already got 10 affirmative RSVPs, and one of those people will pick up the cake for me.
Still not sure what movie we'll be watching.

Well, here we are, just five days before the RSVP date. We've received 18 positive responses and four maybes (and one non-response from someone whose spouse responded with a yes, so that makes 19). 14 people haven't responded at all , so if they come, they won't be getting any cake.
Speaking of cake... I'll be getting a delicious Cookies & Cream cake from The Chicago Diner. They do vegan, trans-fat free cakes: a 10" cake is $60 (serves 20) and a 12" cake is $95 (serves 30-40), and it looks like I'm getting the 12". The Cookies & Cream cake consist of yellow & chocolate marbled cake with cookie crumb filling, vanilla icing & chocolate ganache. Sounds good to me!
And it looks like the movie is going to be "The Loved One".
I'd thought I might make up little goodie bags. Among the ideas for goodies are fortune cookies, rubber finger puppets from a local funky toy store (they usally have aliens, monsters, and Hindu deities in stock), other little plastic toys/games, some sort of candy treat. My other idea was to compile some random video clips into a "mix tape" sort of video and burn a copy for each guest. One of K's friends does this every year for Xmas, and it's fun. The issue being whether I'll find time for such a project by then.

When you said burn I thought you meant, like, sacrificially for a moment
I love those finger puppet things. I haven't seen them since my local toyshop turned into a damn library.
I haven't seen The Loved One.

I doubt they'd let me set any sacrificial fires in the theater, as cool as it sounds.
Definitely see "The Loved One". It's a great film!
