Ahem. I take it you're referring to Freud's Oedipus complex theory, the mythological character who the Greeks say went insane and plucked out his own eyes? Freud said that it's a phase of sexual development. Which doesn't mean it's a permenant desire.
I have actually read Sigmund Freud's Interpretation of Dreams and many of the points made are valid. It's an interesting theory, full of holes, but Freud pioneered in neuro psyhcology and we have much to thank him for.

I haven't read much Freud, and alot of what I have read I find rather disturbing, but I have no doubt he was an important influence to modern psychology.

I think it's necessary to have an open mind when looking at Freud. Many psychologists agree that his work has lead to bigger and better things. It's thanks to Freud that talking to the patient really was recognised as benificial.
