What the *Bleep* is Going On
Ralph the Wonder Llama and André the dodo; Excrement Occurs Posted Nov 3, 2005
I find myself on this site less and less these days. Most of the interesting discussions here have vanished from my convo list, with the exceptions of the ones with Werekitty, Recklessness, and with you, Reefy. It's getting less and less attractive to come here, I find myself spending more time on other forums or just hanging out with friends. That is must come to this after 3 years is deeply lamentable.

I too, also, have been on the site less and less over, probably about the last four or so months, partly this is due to RL things, but sometimes, when I come sit at the PC and I've 'some minutes' spare, I don't necessarily now automaticlaly go to log in to HooToo.... threads are slow, conversations are not moving on, posting is down, and many of the threads I used to spend a lot of tiem on have been jijacked into debarkle over such issues as herein we are talking of... Of course, I know it will all be alright eventually, once nighthoover returns.... but that may be some wtime The site will* not* go totally into that black pit that it appears to be on the edge of; it has spent a lot of time circumlocating that pit, and has always managed to move away from it, it'l do so this time, eventually, I just hope in the meantime we do not loose too many researchers. And if push comes to shove, I'll tie a bow line about HooToo and attach it to one of these lamposts, so it don't fall into the black pit I for one won't let the site descend, it is, at the end of the day, too important to me personally to let that happen, and I'm too bluddy minded.... well, asides anything else, someone needs to be here to welcome nighthoover back on the second coming of nighthoover

If the ACE's didn't already exist, I'd suggest we set up a new scheme where we help each other and welcome new people in to the fold...

I know most places go through situations like this but it's still sad, the italics and the volunteer groups need to bang a few heads together and wrest control of this forum back, what h2 needs is a rap on the knuckles and everybody kept in at playtime for a few days, if we act like children then we deserve to be treated like children

Perhaps there ought to be a new "House Rule" added, ... that anyone proving to be a serious thorn in a large number of Researcher's butts, may be subject to moderation or other treatments. Such abuses to be reported through the "Contact the Editors" channels. So that TPTB will be directly aware, ... with links, chapter and verse.

Perhaps some one who is actually "known" to TPTB could bring up the subject? Because we all know that none of them would be lurking this thread, ...

I'm with 2legs, someone needs to be here for the return of nighthoover
But I also like the idea of wrestling control back from the nit wits that currently have it.
How do we do this though? TPTB don't seem able so how can we mere researchers do it? To try would only create more tension and a bigger divide, a civil war would be a good analogy, and that would be a disaster for Hootoo.
Perhaps the best way would be for everyone to just ignore those they dislike. Ignore any sniping, name calling and outspoken opinions. Eventually they would get bored and would, theoretically, move on to other sites that do react to them.
This course of action would however require a huge effort from all researchers on Hootoo.
Perhaps a name and shame list could be created, but I wouldn't know what criteria to run it from to prevent innocent casualties
I don't know, I'm just knocking some ideas out, anyone else have any thoughts on how to prevent the decline. I assume TPTB would be of little use at this time, their silence speaks volumes.

"I assume TPTB would be of little use at this time, their silence speaks volumes."
It does and it's deafening

What seems to be a common complaint is that one particular 'researcher' never quite breaks any rules. So nothing can currently be done. That's why I suggest a new rule or category, and have just done so through the "h2g2 Feedback". So that if such a person was identified as a recurring pain in the @rse, and enough other researchers confirmed it by quoting threads, post numbers, examples, ... Perhaps sheer volume might cause a response?

It's already had one reply, ... "the current system works fine if it's used." And so many have pointed out that it does NOT work in these types of cases.

The perpitrators, or at least those viewed by the 'majority' as being the perpitrators, of 'bring the site down', or whatever terminology yuou want to use, are not those who will be responsible fo rkilling the site, for the way it works, as on eery single other bluddy ocasion is that it is the rest of us, responding to the 'crisis' on each ocasion that have come close* to pulling the place down about our own lug holes.
There is no problem on the site, and never has been that was so insumountable that it could not be eventually resolved.
It is continually amazing how like RL the HooTOO community is, we act sometimes like the 'voting populus' and seem to miraculusly forget that wich has been before, feel free to shoot me, but hey guys get a sense of proportion......

Don't worry Rev. Nick. It'll get through to the italics and they will take all the views into account. I already emailed them about it just incase they didn't see the thread, referencing your post
The reason H2 is so like RL in many ways is because we, as people, are what make RL what it is...so we also make H2 what it is.

Personally, I am trying to keep things in perspective. As I see it, if one person (at any given time) is cause of a lot of grief, there should be some simple mechanism to deal with it. Something fairly direct to TPTB. And once in their hands to evaulate and perhaps act on, the rest of the folks can carry on.
Other-wise, people WILL over-react, and run away from the problem.
Key: Complain about this post
