Well. *swallows pride* If you all want to do research and bombard my email inbox with details of job stuff (also any writing/poetry competitions too while we're at it), I would really appreciate it. I'm a stubborn cow, and I can't ask for help when I need it.

saturnine when I was first a single parent i had to deal with the DSS and all the s**t that goes with it so I know how difficult it is. However the DSS are always looking for clerical staff. the money isn't bad ,the job is what you make it....but you don't need to be brain of britain to do it. I did it for 8 months because I was desperate. All the job centres have forms..just ring your local one and ask them to send them to you. There's also the tax office and all the other government agencies. you could use it like many people do to earn enough to travel or for their education. I won't give you all the old cliches about time, better future etc. because they don't help..I've heard them all over the years. At the end of the day it's up to you and when you feel a little better you may want to think about it.

P.S. there's a book that the local library will have which contains all the publishers. you could try and approach some about your writing or even ask about work to get some experience. You'd certainly be a good critic or proof reader.

Are you particularly choosy about from which side of the Atlantic writing competitions and stuff originate?

Tabitca - first post *aha!*, second post - already knew. The book is called the "Wristers and Artists Guide"...for anyone else that wants to seek it out.

Nyssa - Not really. Just as long as I can enter them. Some competitions have restrictions.
PQ - I'll have a look now, but I *hate* poetry competitions. *bleh* I'd only enter them for the cash prize (which is what I'm currently having to do).

I think you should go for all of them even the spy one! I can't see you handing out pamphlets though, you'd throw them at people if they didn't take them! lol

Actually, it's more my style to make snide and witty remarks behind a persons back if I don't like them. Me = not aggressive.
A spy though. I laughed out loud when I read that.

The others sound doable though. I don't know about your transport and where they are located so I just went with Bristol alone. Some interesting stuff in Bath and on the way though. Glad you like it.

Have you considered joining a cult? They don't even make you pay taxes if you're employed by a cult.
