No not yet I've got a lot of people coming to me to do freelance work. Plus a ton of leads. I have a paycheck coming on June 1st for regular salary for the month of May (we get paid once a month). Then we have three more paychecks coming on June 1st as our severance pay (for June, July and August). Then a 5th check sometime in June for our bonuses for the months of April and May (we all get quarterly incentive bonuses). And on top of that WD-40 has asked me to work through the month of June for them at my regular salary, and I get a 20% bonus if I stay the whole month. And my boss has leased the building to W-40 for 6 months, so I can keep all of my computer equipment there and work from there (rent free) until he sells the building. Did I mention that WD-40 is going to give me/or work out a deal for me to keep my Mac, 21" monitor, professional scanner, printer, wacom tablet and all my art programs? So really I can start freelancing with hardly any cash output! So things are looking up! Plus, I'll go ahead and send my resume around. There's a firm here in town that handles placement and/or freelance work for artists, marketing people, etc.

That's awesome! You could also probably set up a home office and find something that allows you to telecommute. It's kind of like the best of both worlds.. full benefits of a large company but no office to deal with..

Well if I go full tilt freelancing for myself, then I'll have to get an "Individual" insurance plan for myself and my daughter , pay double taxes to social security, etc. Or maybe I could find a company that I only have to work 30 hours a week at, get insurance, and will be able to freelance on the side. However, it all depends on what I find out from WD-40 over the next few weeks. They'll need to let me know approximately how much work they're thinking of sending my way, so that I can make appropriate plans. I'm working on a flyer for them now.

the taxes and bennies portion are a major POA of self-employment... my mom handled that area for my step when he was in the self-employed world and said it was incredibly annoying... and don't forget retirement planning...
