Oh dear Pheloxi,
I am so sorry that you are not going to be on line and able to captain the tug of war team.
A tug of war means that two teams of six, seven, eight or what have you people hold a rope. Both team captains face one another and their team lines up behind them. At a given signal both teams pull and pull and pull and hope that the one team pulls the other team over a mark on the ground. It is probably a very English game.
Have a good weekend dear friend.

Pheloxi dear,
So glad you are back on line.
Please look at A806500 and A810640 for details of the Harvest Festival.
I have now asked Bassman to be captain of the team!!
Perhaps you can stand next to me and we can be the anchors at the back of the team?
Enjoy your TV

Oh dear Pheloxi,

If you have read it and still do not understand it I really do not know what to do - except to disappear into space at the time of the Harvest Festival!. Hope you are well I am trying use my imagination which is sadly lacking. A big AR1
I think everyone has gone away for the weekend. It is the Nottinggham Carnival here in London. I would love to go.

I might have idea how to play tug of words
to play you find 2 or more people on line. you give each 4 - 6 words (each game new words). the umpire starts new thread and soon as the player(s) see it they must post each word as one posting. the player first posted each word in a separate posting wins.
I do not know if works, because some browsers can open more than one window.

I'd like to be on your tug-of-war team, AR1 ... it just seems that we're online at different times! I hope it's not too time critical. Just point me in the direction of the proper thread at the proper time!
Next weekend TJ and I *might* be going to a baseball game on Saturday (if the baseball teams don't go on strike the day before), and then Monday (which is Labor Day here) we're going to a barbecue at my brother's house. I don't know how much we'll be around for the Harvest Festival, but I'll get a chance to post Sunday night (like I am now), because that's when TJ works, and I'm sitting here entertaining myself!

Dear Pheloxi,
Your virtual tug of war sounds great - like a new game. But my brain is a bit befuddled at the moment. I have had a brandy alexander and am feeling very strange!!. so will think about it. thank you for being such a sport and thinking up a totally new game AR1

Hi dear friend,
I have the signed Mass card and the parish newsletter right next to me and I am now going to write you a letter. I have just had an exciting drink at the great outdoors bar which has knocked me for six. Will I ever act my age I wonder.? I doubt it.! So will now go and write. Poor you. Are you often on your own? a fond AR1

Thank you dear pheloxi
I needed cheering up.
I am feeling slightly befuddled and sore and hung-over after my escapade in the Great Outdoor Bar!! But it was such a lovely drink and I enjoyed it immensely. Now I must go and nurse my wounded pride and my sore head!!. Have a good night's rest. AR1

Don't ever act your age! If I ever start acting my age, I've got instructions for someone to give me a bit of a shake!
I wasn't really on my own when TJ was working. He works at home, so he's pretty much *always* there! He's the "help desk guy" so when he's in between calls, he comes out to keep me company.

Lunch is lovely when you can take your time and have good company. We were going to Hampton Court Palace yesterday, but left the house later than intended. When we got there, the car park was full and we could see that the grounds were stiff with visitors, so we went to have lunch instead.
I remembered a restaurant a friend had recommended, so we went there and the food was delicious. I now tend to drink spritzers at lunch as I feel the soda in the wine helps to avoid dehydration.
The shady border is almost complete and just waiting for some spring and autumn flowering bulbs and corms to go in. Then it just needs its final top dressing of bark chippings.

Sorry you could make Hampton Court but so glad you enjoyed your lunch. I have just posted you on our other thread. I am intrigued with your new pseudonym - and why "quietly dangerous". It sounds 'orribly ominous!. A fond AR1

Very dear Jesi
Where HAVE you been? I have missed you so much. I felt I could not write again just in case you had got bored with this thread!. I wish you had been here last night at the Harvest Festival. Fortunately it is going to be on again tonight . I am going on duty in the Pickled Tent - and then going onto the Beer Tent - at 8.30 BST. I know that Brisbane is ten hours ahead of UK so that may be too early in the morning for you, but hope to see you around. and do leave a message. and if you have any good pickles to donate to the stall I shall be pleased to have them. Remember to bring your wellies with you. It might rain p although I hope not. ,Bye for now. AR1
