We'll miss you kitty.

E.Z. was a stray smiley - blackcat that turned up at our store a few weeks ago. It took us a while to make friends with him. He seemed to be a bit under the weather. Then he got much sicker very quickly. The vet said it was pneumonia and probably other things. We administered the antibiotics faithfully and cleaned him up as often as we could. Thing is, his apetite was good and he seemed perkier Thursday and Friday. When Mike came home Saturday he said that E.Z. was deceased. These things happen, I realize that. It's just so awful to say goodbye. And, I seem to have said goodbye quite a bit lately.

Does pepper spray work in Gumbo?

Last week the police in Georgia caught the prime suspect in the local serial killer case. The suspect has since been brought to Louisiana for legal proceedings. Hopefully things won't be so grim and panicked anymore. Personally, I'm kind of tired of "public service announcements" telling me to be careful, carry mace and look over my shoulder constantly because of the current crime wave. I wasn't ever all that uncareful in the first place. I have always locked my doors, told someone where I intended to go and for how long, walked in well lighted parking lots at night with a group of people if I had to go somewhere and programmed my phone's speed dial for the local emergency number.

All of the victims of this particular crime wave were female. It is said that the killer would gain their trust by offering help and *charming them into thinking he was harmless*. It is supposed that one of his ploys was to appear at the woman's door asking to come in and use the phone to call for help with his stalled car or some such problem.

Piece of advice: Lose the helpless confused expression when you are clueless about where something issmiley - blush or if you have been caught off guard. Practice a slightly irritatedsmiley - groan to somewhat peeved smiley - grr expression. You won't look so much like a prospective victim.

How do you know an offer of help is legitimate? Well, the guy who stopped when my car stalled on a rather secluded street didn't ask me to get into his car... or even out of mine. Instead, he pushed my car, using his car, out of the way of traffic. He asked me for numbers to call for help. Then he left. It was broad daylight in the middle of a very warm sunny afternoon. Within an hour a friend of mine arrived(with tools) to help.

Another time while I was driving home in rush hour traffic, one of my tires shredded itself to bits. This nice man saw my tire starting to come apart. He purposefully put his rather large truck between my car and any other so when I slowed and pulled onto the median no one else was involved, thusly preventing a crash. Then he quickly changed my tire. Didn't ask where I live or anything just how far until I planned to turn off the major highway because my spare was low on air. He followed me that far, waved as he passed me at the intersection where I usually turn onto my own street, and disappeared into the miles of traffic.

One morning at about half past six A.M.smiley - yawn I was once again driving to work. As I drove up to the intersection where I was to have turned an altercation(not exactly a wreck) occurred. I had to turn into a parking lot and turn around. The parking lot was gravel. It had rained for about four or five days non stop. My car got stuck in the mud. Three really large vehicles stopped all at once. The lady in the SUV offered a cell phone. The two men in the trucks that also stopped picked up my carsmiley - yikes and moved it over, out of the mud.

I refuse to believe all men are horrible and dangerous. There are some really nice gentlemen out there. smiley - cheers to all the nice guys out there.

Well, that certainly turned into a long journal entry. But, then again, it's my journal so smiley - nahnah

Please wake me from this nightmare...

A few of you may already know about this and how it has affected me and those around me (IRL).

Just when we were putting it far enough behind us to get on with other things, the court cases have started....and it gets churned up all over again. Could just scream smiley - groan.

March rolled around and Spring looked promising. Then our local police found yet another victim of the local serial killer. That makes three confirmed (DNA matches) so far. Don't worry, I am as careful as anyone can be without jumping five feet highsmiley - yikes any time a stranger asks the time of day.

Add to that all the other current events which no one can mention... and well, you see why I'm so cheerful...smiley - sadface
