You are lucky Batty!
I did'nt fall out of the bed - but it is quite difficult to get used to - moving the head end and the feet end so that one is comfortable. I think that it is going to be great though.
Had a wonderful day at a place called Eagle Heights where there were the happiest array of wild birds I have ever seen. And the wonder of it was the way they were allowed to free-fly outside and always came back to their trainer. Saw an American Bald Eagle - not bald - doing some intereting flypasts.
'Bye all.

Hello AR!
Sounds like you had a brilliant day..there`s nothing better than seeing wild birds flying free, and then willingly coming back to the keeper.
I can remember visiting an Owl sanctuary in Cornwall, where just about every owl imaginable was flying free. Of course we all knew that food was the attraction, but that didn`t detract from a wonderful spectacle.
Star of the show was a huge Eagle owl, and the bond between it and the keeper was phenonenal. My personal favourites were a pair of Barn owls who sat patiently while all and sundry stroked them. I would have loved to take them home with me
Glad you are making progress with the new bed, be careful you don`t tie yourself in knots

Hi Lurcher,
I shall try not to!. I have had a fascinating time this evening on this site learning all sorts of things. Now I must go and have a bite to eat.
So pleased you also like to see wild birds flying free. Today was wonderful. Where was the one you went to in Cornwall.? We leave on holiday in less than two weeks for Newquay - so we might be able to visit it.
Good night to all.

Eight years ago, I visited a friend
in the Rochester (New York) area. She
showed me a bird sanctuary where there
were all kinds of raptors: Hawks, eagles,
falcons, etc. It was exciting to see them
swooping overhead and then dahsing off down
the canyon in search of prey. A little
scary, too.

Hell, it's 4 a.m., here!
s everyone.Thanks Michele.
Ah been keepin' busy...Got me a golf course out back. Lurcher will recognise this one...
As Ex-r tees off at the second hole in her backyard golf course, she is startled by the sound of a semi as it roars down the highway, close by. The ball goes wild, spiralling up and left, then plummets back down to smack into the jaws of a scorpion, who was looking up, watching it. The scorpion swallows it.
Ghost marches over to the scorpion with fire in her eyes and snatches up the unfortunate arachnid. Positioning its head toward the second hole, she puts one foot on its neck. Her club swings up high, then comes down hard, smacking the scorpion hard on the arse. The ball shoots out of its mouth and rockets into a sand trap. As "Lawrence of Arabia" music swells in the background, Ex-r heads on over to the sand trap. The scorpion staggers off, his head spinning and his arse aching...
As Ex-R lines up the next shot, the earth shakes as Spike the Scorpion comes pounding int the sandtrap.
Ex-R, intent on making the perfect shot, does notice that the ball seems to be bouncing slightly, and is just beginning to wonder how come earthquakes got sound effects when Spike's tail whips out and wraps around the bottom of her sheet. He cracks it like a bullwhip, snapping Ex-r out into a stiff white board, then begins slamming her first right, then left, side to side, onto the sand. Ex-r is so startled that she forgets to phase.
Just as ghost is fixing to pass out, she remembers to phase. She phases into the sand and then slips out of his tail's grip, trapping Spike. Ghost phases back onto the sand's surface and dances around Spike in circles, jabbing, boxing, trying to find an opening. Spike, anchored by his tail, follows ghost in a circle.
Ghost backs off and starts hurling insults at the pinned scorpion. As she turns her back to moon him, he jerks his tail free; it zaps her in the arse. 8-0
Then his tail whips around her sheet, and he's got her again!
Finally, he raises her above his head, spinning her to gain momentum, then lets go, launching her.
WhOoooooo HOOoooooooo!
She goes rocketing off of the golf course and right out of the e-mail.
Spike grinns, and ("Hr-umph!") goes stomping off, back to his nest amidst the cheers of the scorpions, rattle snakes, jack rabbits and coyotes.
(Sorry, L, couldn't resist posting this one.)

Like I said at the time, , don`t moon scorpions unless you`re wearin` perspex knickers
My old pal Bill called round, and because at the moment I can`t swing a finger, let alone a golf club, we just sat around goin` over old times, swappin` lies and tall stories, you know how you do
Plus the odd McLurchers or several .
Could be a few stories will emerge, sooner or later, when I get me `ed screwed back on straight.
Meanwhile.... thanks pal..I owe you.

*sneaks up and listens at the window*
*takes notes*
*watches Bill illustrate the latest golf swing*
So THAT's where they got the formula for Lurcher's Bowl Clencher. I didn't know you could milk a wolverine...
*wonders if it's being used to reconstitute her body has anything to do with the strange 'tic' she's developed lately.*

I only know of one person who could safely
milk a wolverine: Martha Stewit, who's on
another planet cavorting with a barbarian
in a hydrangea loincloth.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the Michelle.
I am fascinated by the length of Ex.R story. I lost it less than half way but it sounded very funny!.
As did the perspex knickers.
Paul I kept seeing the term raptor on the description of the various birds of prey. Is it a general term meaning all birds of prey?
Lurcher it sounds as if you have hurt your back. so sorry to hear that. Well I am getting the hang of the bed but it is still difficult to get out of if I have not lowered the two ends!!.
Sleep well all you dear people.

s to all (and a mighty for urcher)
A little bit late but I just read the posts on the wild birds. Shortly after I moved here I had a chance to visit the Carolina Raptor Center. They take in hurt raptors and nurse them back to health before re-releasing them. There are a few 'permanent residents' who can't be released either because they would never survive or because they imprinted on humans during their stay.
It was very interesting. Particularly the bald eagles. Those things are like volkswagens with feathers.

I'm afraid I must be more of a velociraptor--
in other words, something of a dinosaur that
has to struggle to keep up with the modern
technological world. I can do the simple stuff,
mainly because I was taught how to do it on
the job. Heaven help me after I retire and there's
no one to help with the next level of computer
wizardry that comes along.
In my field, I suspect that ten years from now
*everyone* in my field will be expected to be
able to design a web page. There are people coming
out of grad school who had to be able to do it
in order to get their degrees. I don't have a clue
about that, and can't realistically expect to
take courses on it. If I buy one of those 1,000-page
volumes about various technologies, I expect that
by the time I finish reading it, it'll be obsolete.
I don't learn new technology as fast as I used to,
and I didn't ever learn it particularly fast....
Sorry about the rant. There are some things that I'd
rather do the old-fashioned way: with pencil and paper.

PC's didn't exist at all until I was 35.
I didn't get one to work at on my job
till I was 45. There are things I'm still
trying to figure out. There are elderly
people who are desperate to learn how to
use the computerized library catalogs,
or learn anything at all about the Internet.
Naturally, the town where I work dropped
its adult education program twenty years
ago and never reinstated it, so they can't
take computer courses there.

I think we are lucky in that respect, there are courses for all age groups, in most subjects.
The only problem is, they are over-subscribed ten times over!
My local library has three pc set-ups, and to see 10 year olds with fingers flashing over the keys makes me feel like the dinosaur I am.
Ah well, that`s progress
Really must try to get some sleep now..
