Still in hospital my blood count is worsening so am being prepped for another 3 units of transfusion. Really hoped recovery would be better after this birth!

His name is no longer provisional as we've told everyone now and it'd be a pain to change it I will have to think of a net name for him though - brain not functioning well enough yet.
Am home now, was allowed out after the last transfusion. My community midwife thinks that the surgeon underestimated by at least half the amount of blood I lost, they wrote 1L on the notes but that wouldn't account for hgb level going from 12 down to 6 and needing 5 units back in!
Annyhow, feeling much better. Nights not been too bad so far because althugh E wakes for feeds he goes back to sleep afterwards - t'boy never duid that T'boy seems to have accepted E well, kisses and cuddles him and gives him his teddy. So we're busy but its ok

Very dear kelli,
welcome home!!
I hope that you have someone coming in to help? I am appalled that you lost so much blood. Anway, now you must feed yourself well as you are feeding E. and need to have reserves to fall back on.
so glad the eldest is accepting him and giving him his teddy !!
Go well and take care of yourself. You are very special.

It's pretty difficult to estimate blood loss in childbirth. Some studies were done were the blood loss was all measured accurately and it turns out that both midwives and doctors underestimate blood loss. It's a bit easier during a section because if the blood is suctioned up so you get to measure it.
And then if there's blood mixed in with amniotic fluid it's hard to tell exactly what proportion of amniotic fluid is blood and which is er, fluid. Small amounts of blood will be make serous fluid look pretty red.
If you wish to experiment why not pour a bottle of cherryaid on the floor and guess whether it's a 1, 2 or 3 L bottle?
Anyway that's all over! Welcome back! Enjoy Christmas now you have Ethan. Two boys, do you think that makes it a proper family now?

I wasn't criticising - I've no idea how one would look at that charnel house floor and estimate the blood loss. It is just a pity that it was underestimated as I'd have got home sooner if I'd had the transfusion right away instead of it being assumed I'd be ok with just iron tablets.
Settling in at home now, got little E into his real nappies and managing his feeds ok. Still don't know how I'm going to feed/bathe/play with them both when J goes back to work!
