Still not a hint of a contraction so we don't seem to have achieved anything after the sweep. smiley - sadface

I've realised that the consultant/registrar hasn't made another appointment with me to discuss what happens when I go over - I am just booked in for the late section in january. I wonder if this is deliberate or an oversight - they don't seem to be that arsed about discussing anything with me but it seems odd that they only saw me at 38 weeks (and originally at 20 weeks, then the appointment at 34 that the mw made where they acted like I was wasting their time) and then not again even if we go overdue. Am I supposed to ring and make an appointment if we do go over? I think the problem might be that they do their clinics on a thursday usually so there isn't one this week or next week. Bloody christmas. My community midwife doesn't know because we are berkshire and the hospital is oxfordshire.

If you're already booked in for the section I would think that's the decision made. As in if no labour by then - elective section.

If you're going 'over' then you need to be induced or have a section, given your history induction isn't really an option, so that leaves a section.

Both said they would consider breaking waters or v low dose of syntocinon to see if things could be started if everything looked favourable, or straight to section if not. Can't see how they could do the first if we don't see them again - or is breaking my waters something the community midwife could do? Of course she is off now until the new year anyway so it really does seem to be start on my own or a section.

And still not a hint of a twinge of a contraction smiley - sadface

I guess I never realised that you were so near!

I can't offer any helpful hints, I'm afraid. Having a birthday on or near a holiday can be quite cr@p but not if one makes the effort! My birthday falls the day before my mothers' - which is also our Independence day - and it was sometimes really great, especially as a kid.

I can appreciate that the prospect of a hospital christmas is not an appealing one though smiley - hug
(and surely something to take into consideration for the next one smiley - tongueincheek ?)

Right, kindly all uncross your fingers and recross them tomorrow morning! Much as I am still desperate to get him out, it would be better, on balance, if #2 didn't turn up today...

Merry Christmas folks smiley - santa

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

Just a quickie to say that Ethan Thomas Dickinson (provisional) arrived at 16.41 on boxing day. My waters went at around 2am after a lovely christmas day at home with T'boy, contractions started shortly after and it took us 12 hours to get to fully dilated - I had been desperate to push at 6cm so was given an epidural, was all very calm after that. He didn't want to come out on his own (after an hour or so of pushing) as had twisted back-to-back at the last minute (like t'boy did) so we were taken to theatre to have a go at turning with the forceps and cs if not. A couple of pushes there and out he came, still the wrong way round so we ended up with a third degree tear - not quite what I wanted! Lost a lot of blood again so these factors mean I'll be in hospital for a few days but am happy and pleased to have avoided the section - and #2 is gorgeous and feeding well.

Many many congratulations! I'm very glad you managed to get him out of the front door rather than the sun-roof this time, and damn, ow, the tear sounds ghastly, ow ow ow. Hopefully you'll heal up very fast - at least it's not major surgery involving abdominal muscles. Congratulations again, my dear, and welcome to the outside world, young Probably Ethan (I like the name Ethan), and may everyone always give you a Christmas present AND a Birthday Present.
