Phew! I'm glad you guys are all okay.

If it makes you feel better, Paul, the driver didn't live there (We got the preliminary report yesterday) No insurance info for the guy, but we did find that we *do* have uninsured motorists coverage.

Thanks. I'd actually read your journal before I'd gotten this one written, which is a major reason I thought it'd be good to make it clear from the first that everyone was OK!

How are the bruises (real and imagined) healing?

Though evidently I had a lot of small hurts that are healing slowly, because I've been exhausted the last couple of days.

It was so weird to read about your accident, right after the one I had seen! I'm really glad yours was not so bad.

It can't be any fun to witness a traffic accident.

I'm also glad we did sideswipe the guy instead of it being a head-on, because then, the combined speeds woulda been 110...

(Well, sounds better than being sore because we're packing, and you can't really avoid lifting and such while packing I never realized how many muscles are tied directly to the left upper/mid chest!)

Slow and steady is the method for packing. Any rush and things get broken, like boxes, figurines, ... fingers.

Wow, Amy, how are you going to move without your vehicle??? I'm guessing your congregation will pitch in, but still...

I've heard that Californians tend to think of our friends by what they'll do for us -- and helping us move is at the top of that list. Rated about equally with friends willing to pick us up at the airport -- they're truly golden; some also include those willing to help hide the bodies, but I wouldn't know about that...

Hiding bodies is getting harder as waistlines expand.

I should probably get around to telling about the move here (new journal coming soon)--I did tell a bit about it in the Salon a few months ago (November, I think...), but I don't think anyone here that's not a Salonista has heard anything about it...

And so far all I've packed are blankets and clothes, and labelling boxes (such as Christmas decorations) that are already packed

And I also forgot to address the lack-of-vehicle thing... We also have a small pickup, so we're not completely vehicleless, plus Tom's dad is letting us use his Honda (since the truck's a stick shift, and I can't drive it)

We went and talked to a lawyer today, and learned that 1) we'd be better off doing this ourselves, since there were no major injuries (as opposed to hiring him on contingency), 2) we can have him write a nasty letter if need be if nothing's moving forward in a couple of months (for a flat fee), 3) there seems to be at least one honest lawyer in Crescent City and 4) the other driver was booked as a *felony* drunk driver (going by the code number in the report).
