I'm jealous of the coldest places I know of. The Sunday temperatures here will have a high of about 10 degrees Fahrenheit and a low as far down as -12. Stockholm, Helsinki, Butte in Montana, Barrow in Alaska, White Horse in the Yukon territories? All much warmer, even above freezing for part of the day....

It could be due to the sudden stratospheric warming event and polar vortex. I think that there may be a reversal of the temperatures for Europe and Euro-Asia next week.

It's just the way the wind blows, isn't it? Determined by the Jet Stream? The other, usually colder, cities are currently getting a weather stream from milder currents, while you're getting a big F U from Canada?
It's cold here, too, paul. But the weatherman has promised me 4" of snow on Sunday, and 50F by Wednesday. I'm holding him to it.

I know warmer temps will or may arrive next week. I don't care for going through the deep freeze to get there, though.

Calling in from Canada, today was pretty close to the zero-F, and the next several (including the week-end) will be well under that ... So sharesies, Paul.

It's up to a balmy -9C in western Pennsylvania, and it started snowing again this afternoon.
The 4-pound dog is annoyed. She tends to disappear under snowdrifts. Fortunately she's grey.

The arctic jet stream pseudopod indeed shifted briefly to the midwest for Groundhog Day, but the eastern margin shifted back again without losing any of the ground it had gained, now includes the Dakotas south to Oklahoma and Texas besides New England and Labrador, centered on Hudson's Bay extending into the arctic.
Its grown.
Unlike local weather, jet stream weather tends to be stable over long periods.
Among things driving the shift is a arctic ocean high pressure zone.

Once we get to next Monday, things will be seasonably warm or cold, depending on your point of view.
If next Summer is horrendously hot, I might want to reconsider my temperature preferences.

We have this old saying in German: If the cock crows on the dung the weather changes or it remains as it is

ändert sich das Wetter
oder es bleibt wie es ist)

The weather people can't even agree on what the temperature is right now! At one site, the up to date temp is 5 below zero, Fahrenheit. At another site, it's 1.5 below zero. Of course, both temps are very low.
On Tuesday, temps will be in the 50s, and we will probably get rain.
