I passed my Theory Test!
Posted Aug 13, 2003
Took it again last night, was more nervous than the first time! Hadn't revised as much But I used common sense on the questions I didn't know! Me, sense? I know!
Anyhoo, got a higher score on the multiple question, and now I knew properly how to take the hazard perception, I passed that bit too! Hurrah!
Next step is the 'real' test, for which the target is October.

Theory Tests...
Posted Aug 6, 2003
I had my Theory Test today, and failed
I'd left it to the last minute to read the Highway Code , but most of it's common sense, and I'd learned all the signs and memorised the stopping distances (and thinking times!).
Now though the test is in two parts - the first, you have to answer questions on the Highway Code; the second, you take a 'Hazard Perception' test, which involvees watching video clips and clicking on the mouse whenever you see a hazard. Fair enough.
I did absolutely fine on the Highway Code questions, a big thumbs up to last minute cramming but failed on the Hazard Perception!
I think I know why though, I was too careful. If I saw a school bus pull up, I clicked the button, whereas I should've waited until I *saw* the *hazard* i.e. school kids coming out. Likewise with a car parking in front of me, I clicked the button because I knew the driver's door would open into the road, but I should've waited until I *saw* the driver's door open. Therefore my clicks wouldn't have counted, therefore I lost. Which was pants.
But, booked another one as soon as I got into work.. roll on next Tuesday!

"Go Queegle, it's yer birthday ..."
Posted Aug 6, 2003
It was my birthday on Sunday
I like birthdays, I can see why people get depressed and fed up, but in this case, there really is absolutely nothing you can do about it, so why not use it as an excuse for a party!
We spent the day at Woburn Safari Park ( http://www.woburnsafari.co.uk ). I like to get out of the city, and London would've been a bit pricey for us, and hadn't been to Woburn since I was knee high to a grasshopper, so Woburn it was, and it was fan-flippin-tastic!
They've got a maize maze which is only there for the summer holidays. The black bears came really close to our car, then sat in the road on his bum like a baby, pawing at something on the ground. No worry about monkeys ripping off windscreen wipers, we only saw half a dozen, they were in with the bears, and each time a big monkey started coming towards the cars, the ranger drove up to chase them off. All the animals were very chilled out and relaxed, probably due to the heat! They've also got an Australian Walkabout type thing, you walk through an enclosure holding Emus and Wallabies, the emus don't come too close but the wallabies sit right by the path and you can stroke them! We also saw an 'Elephant Encounter' demonstration, and afterwards they walked the elephant round the edge so we could all stroke her. Cheryl and I got our faces painted, and when we went to the sealion demonstration, because I was painted like a tiger, I got picked as a volunteer, and got to hold a hoop while a sealion jumped through!! There's also a monkey and lemur walk through enclosure, but the monkeys just seemed to get on with their own thing, they probably see so many humans we're of no interest to them! There are also goats and sheep you can stroke, but after fussing wallabies, sheep seem so dull! There's a huge picnic area as you come out of the safari, and it was really quite peaceful, even on a sunny August Sunday. We also saw prezwalski horses, american bison, giraffe, many different gazelles, canadian timber wolves, "lions and tigers and bears, oh no! lions and tigers and bears!", ooh and rhino and zebra! All in all, Woburn Rocks!

Drinking is bad for you

No, it really is.
It makes you forgetful (left programs at Theatre and cigarettes in McDonalds ), and makes you think you can achieve things that might otherwise seem very dubious... things like climbing Ben Nevis A1116398...
