Hello, guys. Go here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A528789

I'm thinking of making a GuideML version of the Straight Edge FAQ (with the rude words moderated out too, of course!). Think that's a good idea?

You don't think that "normal" people will be so scared by the frankly quite odd people in the straight edge FAQ that they won't take us seriously. I think I lost my copy so probably you should make a GML version. Oh can we all work on the page or is it just you?

(p.s is there a rehersal on Tuesday)

We should all work on the page. It's not "mine" it'll be a group effort.

I was thinking we could do stuff like compile a list of reasons why people choose to be sXe (because the Guide Entry is supposed to be unbiased - our h2g2 club/group/whatever doesn't have to be!), have links to sXe stuff on the net, reccommended bands, a list of sXe researchers (you never know, there may be more one day) and so-on. A hub, if you will.

I'm worried that people will be scared by the FAQ too - but it IS a massive resource, and entertaining. Anyway, they'll (hopefully) have read the Edited Guide Entry on sXe already, and read all our propaga- I mean, opinions, too.

Anyway, no-one will take us seriously if we sound really serious about it all the time. Like the people on the FAQ. D'oh! (I mean, we're hardly serious people all the time, are we?)

I should jolly well hope so. I've been trying out my tiny drums again! Also, my mother's saying we'll get sound-absorbant wallpaper in the new soundproof extension (when it's finished) so we might be able to record in there without nasty echoes all the time. Woo hoo!

well, perhaps we could include a disclaimer stating that not ALL sXe-ers are like that...

Yeah sounds fab-erific. We can as sea says tell the good people of the guide that alt.music.straight-edge tends to be a haven for complete loons (Hope that wasn't libel) and thus anything in the FAQ is just bound to be slightly weird. If you need a hand transcribing it I should be able to help a bit. I think the chances of us sounding *too* serious are remote to say the least. I'll post a couple of ideas on the entry in a minute.

Nrrrrng...

I certainly would appreciate a hand with GuideMLing the FAQ. Progress report:

Currently 535 lines, and I'm only nearly a quarter of the way through. I tried putting what I've done so far up on h2g2, but the troubleshooting is taking AGES (those BL**DY TAGS!!!! GAAAARGH!) But it does look a lot better, and due to all the anchors, should be much easier to navigate.

Plus, we should get more traffic when people search for "straight edge FAQ" on the 'net.

send me a segment of the FAQ and I'll write it and send it back for you.

Thanks Andy, but I think I'll scrap that idea.

I think it'd be better to write our OWN FAQ, perhaps using similar headings, and a wider variety of sources from the internet. This would mean we could say what WE want, and would avoid various copyright issues too.

what do you mean by 'using resources off the net'? do you NEED internet resources to write your own straight edge FAQ's? i would think that all you would have to do is write your own opinion... smiley - smiley

To me FAQs sound like they have to feature some factual responses and I think BMMT was saying those that we don't know can be stol..*ahem* borrowed from Internet sites. Although on second thoughts we could make it up. We are probably the biggest (read : only) authorities on the guide.

sXe

Well, I was really meaning a combination of the both.

Sea's right, we can provide most of the personally opinionated stuff, which is what I thought we could do for the main page, etc.

But if there are questions about 'historical' aspects of sXe, then we want to get it as right as possible - instead of our half-remembered semi-facts, we use OTHER PEOPLE'S semi-facts/lies as a source. But we ought to 'research' and not steal, really. Mr T says "remember kids: stealing is bad".

I'm going to take down the poached alt.punk FAQ and just leave a link to it until we've started ours, I think. Less chance of confusion etc.

We probably out to think about what sections to have, or something (this goes for the FAQ and the main page).

sXe

Post 19

Comrade Rumble

Theres plenty of stuff out there just do a google search on "straight edge" and any number of poorly explained half truths are revealed. Someone also appears to be passing the alt.punk.straight-edge FAQ off as their own work.
