Mr T happens to still be on the free credit given to him when he purchased the phone. And he only uses it when he really needs to... doesn't play snake... and doesn't 'compare' it to other people's phones all the time. (I might have a phone but I still wish I didn't)

It starts with just having the phone, then "ooh look I can send this one text message to arrange an important event.". Next thing you know you've sold your soul for two minutes more airtime. Watch out Mr T.

Sometimes mobile phones can actually be quite useful (gasp)
Especially when you live in a school boarding house with no outside line and the only phonebox is a 2km walk away, and you want yer mum to phone you on the boys phone. Cant wait till uni.

I have nothing against having a mobile, just in my experience it can become addictive and a waste of money. The situation I'll be in next year (Uni) may call for a mobile as the University has a deal with a really expensive provider who you have to take your phone from. (The main reason I made anti-mobile references is because Mr T has for a while been extremely anti-mobile and then suddenly just buys a mobile)
