Hey there! Just wanderig round h2g2 and found a fellow Cambridge student! Better introduce myself - my name's Nick and I'm a first year medic at Sidney Sussex (the one that's part of Sainsbury's).
So how's Caius (spelt right? I can never remember how it's spelt)? Saw you liked science - you a NatSci? When I got here I laughed at all the NatScis having to get up early until I realised that I have lectures at the same time they do - propably deserved it. Did you go on the rag pub crawl last night? It was pretty good...
Anyway, better get on with my essay rather than hang around here!

Hi Dr Nick!
(I would do the voice but I've got a sore throat)
I wasn't on the RAG crawl, I have to ration my nights out and tuesday was our Matric dinner (followed by Cindy's till about 2am), tonight I have a 'family meal', cooked by my college parents, probably involving a fair amount of wine, and saturday there's a 'back to school' disco (not the tit hall one, one done by caius/RAG).
I'm a first year BioNatSci. The difference is that we work harder than medics, and don't talk about cutting up bodies over dinner.

We do that to see everyone else's expressions whilst they're eating. My mate wandered into my room the other day eating a sandwich, took one look at the box of bones I had just been given and was almost sick. Bit weird really but that's what you've got to be in order to be a medic! What's that about you working harder than all of us medics? Actually, now I think about it you're probably right... (though we probably drink more)
Got medic initiation here tomorrow night. If you see any drunken Sidney medics around you tomorrow night could you point us back home? We'll be easy to spot - lab coat, underwear and not much else!
Hi Catwoman!
Catwoman Posted Oct 24, 2002
I would if I knew which way your home was!
Why exactly are you taking your lab coats?
Hi Catwoman!
Dr Nick Posted Oct 24, 2002
In an attempt to look like doctors. That, and without it we would just look stupid and be cold in our underwear. This way we get to look stupid and be cold but at least maintain some kind of decency (if very little).
Hi Catwoman!
Dr Nick Posted Oct 28, 2002
Whatever it is it certainly isn't a white coat anymore - covered in alcohol and copious amounts of Guinness. Don't think I'm going to get away with wearing that in the lab (better not go anywhere near exposed flames)!
Join me on an anti-John's rant? Refused to serve me and the Sidney troop at their bar and as good as threw us out. The b******s.
Hi Catwoman!
Dr Nick Posted Oct 28, 2002
Sorry, didn't mean to offend. The med students I've met from John's are pretty cool - it's just the bar staff that we don't like. Whereas Sidney's got a student run bar and we have a good time...

It varies. Formal is pretty good and regular hall is alright, though sometimes you can't tell what it is. How bout the gruel at your place?
Hi Catwoman!
Catwoman Posted Oct 29, 2002
Our formal and regular is the same, also we have to eat there like 45 times a term, so not great.

We mostly cook for ourselves here. Generally I wander around looking hungry until someone feeds me...

Check out the "how do I?" conversation. I posted a how to learn how to cook thread but it wasn't quite what I was looking for.
I'm cooking for the girls on the second floor soon to return the favour for when they've fed me. Any ideas? Ideally it would be very tasty, easy to cook and make me look very competent (if that means attractive too then all the better!)

Oh dear, didn't look very useful, although I spent a while looking at the U2 link.

The How do I page has improved. Got some posts on stuff other than beans on toast. It's getting there. I'm psyching myself up for the big cooking spree sometime next week. If you see Sidney burning down then it's probably me. How's NatSci stuff going? Got a saturday morning lecture this week. I shouldn't be doing that, I'm a medic!

Fair enough. I think you win in that respect. I think I'm going to sleep through mine. Do yours start at 9?
