One gig ain't going to be anywhere near enough storage space to deal with all the guff that's sprouted about the Lord of the Rings

Yeah, I've seen that one too
I currently have nine invites going spare btw, and I've seen invites being offered on a couple of email lists I'm subscribed too.

I've sent out 18 over the last few weeks but have not had any new ones for a week or so... I am glad to have helped those who I have.

It took a while (days) to get onto the site to register, got the gmail up and running, but now, for the last couple of days it's back to...
'(i) The page cannot be displayed'... rather frustrating

I sometimes have a little difficulty getting in, particularly at about 9 in the morning when everyone gets into work and floods the servers

Well, with invites flying across the internet almost as fequently as male enhancement spam, and people taking them up and using the Google servers, it's not surprising.

it's not letting me in
You would have thought that if they were going to send out lots of invites they would have increased the server capacity to match, I wonder what the problem is.

I realize I'm jumping on the bandwagon a bit too late , but I'm probably due for a few more invites from my Gmail account in the next few days, so if any lurkers would like one drop by my space and leave me a note.

It strikes me that between us we've got a heck of a lot of invites left over after we've invited all of our mates to have one.
So what say I start a thread over at Askh2g2 telling anyone who wants an invite to pop along here and someone will do their best to oblige? A sort of a 'lets spread the love around' type of an exercise

You old hippy
I reckon it'll need someone to organise the requests and dole them out, otherwise you might get four different benefactors sending invites to the same Researcher.

Well I haven't got any invites left so I can't help at the moment.
The best way to manage it would be if someone asks for an invite, the people who have ones to give away can post saying they will send one and then everyone else knows not to send to that person. If the email addresses are handed out via PS' that should help reduce the chances of crossovers.
Eg. If I posted that I wanted an invite, Gosho could post that he would gladly send me one and that he'll drop me a line on my PS to organise it, then he would nip over to my page and post a message asking for my email.
This will work best if we have a semi-standard subject line for the personal space messages (ie. Your Gmail invite.) and if the system is well explained to people regularly. You can also say to the people you invite that should they have any spare invites they can return the h2g2 favour by handing them out on this thread.
OK I'm going to stop organising people now.... Let me know what you think of the system.

I just put up a journal entry regarding my Gmail invites, so I hope other researchers will see that and post there.
Organization? What's that?!

GreyDesk Posted Jul 8, 2004
Mel, that sounds like a cracking way of organizing things
It's just the sort of thing I would have posted if my initial idea hadn't come at around 2 in the morning, and I was too tired (not to mention ) to think of some sensible system.
* off to Askh2g2 *
