Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidmann? Who's who?
He's short, she's tall.
How about Bruce Willis and Gwyneth Paltrow?

Do people still do sub-crawls, where you try to have a pint at the nearest pub to every station on the subway? Has this noble pissart ever been documented?
Wouldn't that be a good way of seeing Glasgow at the weekend? Lyns would have the opportunity to film loads of picturesque pubs in Glasgow, then pour us onto the train again for the next station.
Ah well, be like that then, but I'm suddenly overwhelmed with the desire to do some research on this one.

I have some friends who used to do that. Just remember not to do it when Rangers are at home, Ibrox will be somewhat busy
Also, apparently at Shields Road (I think) you have to walk all the way back to the previous stop to find a pub! Worth an entry though, probably as part of Carolines Underground tour.

The abcense of subway systems where I have lived has prevented me from partaking in any sub-crawls, Wumbie.
If you decide on a date, I think I could be up for it. Any other takers?

There was a guy I know who tried to get this organised a few years back, but never got round to it. From what I've heard it can be pretty tough. Starting off at 11am, finishing at ~11pm (or whenever the underground shuts, 15 pubs, and some of the pubs are a fair distance from the appropriate station. In my younger days etc. etc.

Bit like trying to do Rose St., Edinburgh, back in the old days.
Something like 20+ pubs back in the early 70's.
According to my dad, who was barred from most of them

I think FC's dad had tried a Rose Street pub-crawl back when... I even think she said that he succeeded in getting through the entire pub run as well.
Would it be onsidered cheating to have a taxi standing by at each station to speed things up a bit at the stations where the pubs are furthest away from the sub stations?

Did I not post in August that my dad had done the lot?
I can't remember.

It would be quicker, and probably cheaper, to just buy a huge crate of beer and drink it on the train.

Lost in Scotland Posted Jan 16, 2001
Yes, you are right. Open a can of beer at every station. That would save time and money... Drinking a can at every station would devastate you, though.
Babel, was it your dad that had done the entire Rose Street Pub-crawl? Weird. FOr some reason, I thought that was GC who said it.. Oh well. I dunno..

But if you just take a carry out on the train, imagine all that fresh air and exercise you'll miss, running between pubs. You must burn off a couple of pints just walking places.

Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.) Posted Jan 16, 2001
Well, we could get off the train at each station, have a beer, then get on the next train to the next station, and so on. And someone would get lots of exercise carrying a huge crate of beer around.

Sorry to be a killjoy folks, but local byelaws mean you can't drink alcohol in public places in Glasgow.Sadly that includes the underground.

Babel17 Posted Jan 16, 2001
Shame. Anyway, where would we have gone to the loo...actually, i don't want to think about it. The smell down there is bad enough already.

Wumbeevil Posted Jan 17, 2001
We can't drink on the trains, they're reserved for pickle fights.
Munchkin, I have vague memories (can't quite understand why) that two stations were always skipped as a waste of good drinking time. Would West Street be the other?
Ardzil it is now compulsory, due to that local byelaw, for anyone wishing to drink in public to congregate on the cycle/drinking paths and at the entrance to the Green. Anyone else ever been asked if they're "Looking for business?" whilst on a pushbike? Come to Glasgow and kerbcrawl the healthy way.

So, no drinking in public places? Can't you just do the "Great American Cover-up" tactics with the beer, then? Just use the brown paper bag. It works in the US.

Munchkin Posted Jan 17, 2001
This local by-law is why I like Jinty McGintys as a pub. When warm we all spill in to the lane, technically in public, and drink happily in the sun. Sort of public protest with beer and nearby loos.

Is that the pub in Ashton Lane? Opposite the Ashoka and the CHip, and on the same side as The Grosvenor cafe? (mmm all day breakfast)

Munchkin Posted Jan 17, 2001
Indeedly. The Ashoka is a good curry place, as I think someone was looking for them. Mind you, there are about five Ashokas in Glasgow, not all of which are good.
