End of an era

Not been on h2g2 for a few days, real life didn't allow, but I want to post this whilst the memory is fresh. Last Sunday, 11 May, I went to Maine Road to watch City's last ever match there before moving to the City of Manchester Stadium next season. I really, really desperately wanted to be there - and I was lucky enough to get a corporate ticket for the posh seats at £150 (face value).

I didn't think I'd be particularly emotional, but so much history, so many memories. That football ground has been the scene of some of my happiest memories, and some of the saddest, but over all is the memory of standing at the back of the old Kippax Street terrace, jammed in tight with my mates and 26,000 other bodies in that single stand alone, 53,000 in the crowd, all of us singing our hearts out and consumed in ecstasy when Colin Bell or Francis Lee or Mike Summerbee or Rodney Marsh or Dennis Tueart or Trevor Francis buried the ball in the back of the net. People who don't follow football just don't get it, but it's such an all-encompassing passion - I love my football club!

So, I didn't shed a tear, but I felt myself filling up as I walked through the exit gates for the last time ever. smiley - blue

Still, hopefully we'll escape the infamous gypsy curse said to be on Maine Road. I can't wait to see my new seat in the City of Manchester Stadium - I don't even know where it is yet, but I know I've got one. I'm sure it will be a seat for a roller coaster ride. smiley - wow

Bloody foreigh lorry drivers

Bloody Turkish lorry drivers. They sit on the wrong side of the cab on the motorway, then they pull out without being able to see properly and crunch into the side of the little Fiat that's minding its own business trying to overtake them. And bounce the poor little Fiat into the side of my car when I'm minding my own business in the outside lane. And make a dirty great dent and cause me to swerve violently and nearly hit the central reservation and make me really very cross. Really very bloody cross indeed. I'm crosser than somebody who's really, really cross. I wouldn't mind so much if the b*st*rd hadn't failed to stop. Poor Mr and Mrs Fiat seemed pretty shook up - lucky nobody was hurt. I was inches from being an ex-Kebab - I think that if I hadn't done so many miles in so many vehicles and passed so many driving tests I would have been.

Did I mention I'm cross? Ye gods and little fishes, I'm cross.

That's 4 points we've taken off 'em this season. Not sure why I didn't post an entry after we whupped them at home earlier this year, but I'll make up for it now.

'Er indoors

I've finally persuaded the Admiral to join up to hootoo - U212582. smiley - smiley

She hasn't actually posted anything yet - I just made sure that she put something on her space so she'll get ACEd, and I set her up with the nickname 'The Admiral', although whether she'll want to stick to it is up to her - it's bedtime and I wanted to get her set up quickly.

I'm not going to ACE her, it'd be a bit smiley - silly - anyhow she's here on her own behalf.

She'd asked me to post some obscure question on Ask h2g2 - I asked why she didn't just register and then she can ask for herself, and she seemed quite enthusiastic.

I'll live to regret this - we're always fighting over PC time as it is! smiley - erm

Back again

I've just got back from a brilliant fortnight in Crete. smiley - biggrin

What a great place - super weather, loads of history to explore, amazing scenery and mostly delightful people. Bloody awful drivers, though! And I've been eaten alive by small flying things, and I've got a bit of an upset stomach, and I'm absolutely knackered, but it was all worth it.

And when I got back I tried to get my extremely touchy PC to work. General concensus before I left was that I needed a new power supply, but as my motherboard is an AT and AT power supplies are no longer easily available I bit the bullet and bought a new PC. I wish I'd done it before - I've been struggling for ages trying to get my old one to work - it's really too old - everything is incompatible with new gear.

I got away with spending less than £300, as I only needed the basics. It's taken my half the afternoon to get it to see my old hard drive, but I'm in business at last. Phew!

I don't suppose it will make me any more diligent about journal entries. smiley - erm
