Cool things happen, 2

I opened my email today to find a congratulatory message from the h2g2 editors (actually, there were two) telling me that my guide entry on "Buying a Car" had been approved. I didn't know I'd been working on one!

This has happened once before, when a couple of lines from a posting I'd made were used in an entry on playground games, so I didn't get excited.

Then when I looked at the entry I found that a good three screens-worth of advice that I had posted on buying a car had been used in the entry, as well as the story of Mrs Kebab's Lada (which we called 'the Shed'). smiley - ok

I'm well chuffed! smiley - biggrin

Home again, home again - licketty split

I arrived back from a brilliant week in Cyprus yesterday. Did all the touristy stuff - rented a car and visited some ruins - some of the Roman mosaics are stunning! And the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Tombs of the Kings - wonderful. smiley - biggrin

It's really quite difficult to sample the local food and drink in the towns, though - everybody is trying to cater to the British tourist. That doesn't float my boat at all - if I want British food and drink I can get it anytime I want at home - when I'm away I want to experience the country I'm visiting.

Which means driving off into the country and practising my non-existent Greek. I can manage hello, goodbye, please and thankyou, although it's amazing how far that will get you. smiley - smiley

The last day was blighted by the awful news from the US - we were out on a 'safari' with a Cypriot driver in a Land Rover - we simply couldn't believe what he was telling us, and it was only when we got back to the hotel where we had BBC World that we began to understand what had happened. Although I don't think I ever will understand it.

So, now we're back in Manchester, and it's chucking it down with rain. Never mind, it will soon be Christmas.
