Journal Entries

dear diary

Well, it's two weeks since my last entry, so I guess it's time to write something.

There has been a position created for those who want to welcome new researchers to the guide. Peta, the Community Editor http://www.h2g2.com/U24 has created a contest for naming the position. These folks will make it a point to say hello to new Researchers. Sorta like the 'Sub-editors' who help with editing articles that are becoming Approved Entries.

Lotsa names were suggested, including one of mine which didnt seem to generate any enthusiasm. Festival [now Skeleton (ACE)] http://www.h2g2.com/U97840 suggested A.C.E., meaning Assistant Community Editor, and that was the choice. And an excellent one it was, too. smiley - smiley But I still like 'Friendly Mattresses' best. Voon.

You can sign up to be an ACE and help welcome new Researchers at http://www.h2g2.com/A210664

I have made some new friends. Greebo http://www.h2g2.com/U65771 who likes Anne McCaffrey and DRAGONS!!!, and Ormondroyd http://www.h2g2.com/U95721 who has some interesting comments about censorship on the Banned Books page. Some nice milk and cookies at Spiny's http://www.h2g2.com/U35761 place, too...

Some folks are having tea and conversation at the Wiccan Forum. Join KayKay http://www.h2g2.com/U100329 and Contemplation http://www.h2g2.com/U96165 and me for a nice chat at 'Dropping in and Sitting a spell' in the Wiccan Forum http://www.h2g2.com/A196300 . Theres lotsa hot tea, biscuits, and a cozy rocker or two.

Banned Books

There is now a Guide article on one of my favorite subjects; banned books.

If you would like more information about why people ban books, some of the things that have been banned, and stuff about intellectual freedom [in print AND on the internet] go to
http://www.h2g2.com/A199109.

The article is sorta long, and [mostly] serious. But it is an interesting kinda thing. Especially since most of my favorite authors have been banned.

The winner? Seems to me that Kurt Vonnegut wins currently, with John Steinbeck coming in a close second.

Comments, controversy and debate welcome!

Housecleaning

*coff, coff, coff*

Sorry, excuse the dust. Have been moving furniture again. You would think that all the goo would keep the dust down a little better.

Well, I hope that the page has been improved by the new arrangement. Will be adding more links to some of my friends and favorite pages in the next installment.

Looks like we all lived through Samhain/Halloween. And they even got those hobgoblins that were playing with the smileys out of the guide. I notice it took most of the day to do it, tho. Wonder who had to donate their trick or treat candy to lure them out of the Guide.

more interesting stuff

Today's picks include an article on Mark Twain, one of my favorite people. I highly recommend visiting Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain. http://www.h2g2.com/A195662

Festival's Artificial Intelligence article 'Playing God' http://www.h2g2.com/A193006 is another fascinating topic. Unfortunately I havent taken time to settle down and read all of it, forums, etc., etc. Too busy doing death-spirals in another nameless forum...

While these ARE interesting things, I must admit that this entry is yet another attempt to push the 'SETI Link That Took Over The Page' off the page!
