Ugh! Pipe bands. All over town. Plus buses disrupted
Posted Aug 4, 2007
Today was Tartan Day in Aiberdeen, and every Russ Abbott-kilted Jack McConnell-bloused wind-filled grievance-fuelled bagpipe owner in Scotland descended on the city like wolves on the fold. It was horrible. They marched up and down Union Street. To get from anywhere to anywhere you had to walk past two or three pipe bands. I just put on the 'Bain Face of Horror', covered my ears with my hands and walked a bit faster, but it was clear that some people considered me a poor sport for doing so. Then, in front of M&S, there was an electric guitar/acoustic guitar/drums trio from the City of Joy Ministry performing dreary dismal Hayzoos-themed sub-slacker rock, and NO he did not exist and NO he did not die for me and NO I will not be going to hell cos' there ain't no such place or if there is it exists only in the same way that Isingard does and NO none of my sins are so great that they require to be expiated through the spilling of any blood, or even a ragnail, and NONE - not even collected in 65 monthly parts into a handsomely-bound mock-leatherette volume - amount to one-billionth part the sin of inventing and prosyletising a religion - Any and All. Bah! Humbug!
I found this in archive.org this morning:

The author's text is worth a read. That's how I see all religion.
Curry for tea tonight. Plus some vino.
It has been a warm sunny day in Aiberdeen. I had cawfee in Starbuck$ and bought a second-hand copy of Emma Tennant's Robina - Her Story in a charity shop.
