Elgin, centre of the universe
Posted Aug 17, 2007
I was there on Tuesday, and was back there again today. Susan has to go there next Thursday.
Miah is off colour - scabbed from fighting. Susan wants to do her a favour by removing them then washing the area with salted water. Miah is NOT happy, and blood may flow...

Well you know how boxers' noses seem to spread across their faces after a bout - that is the best description of Miah's face at present. I don't think I did much good. She is sitting two feet from me growling and washing the salt from her face. I've had to move the keyboard onto my lap out of the range of her claws.
I will drop Douglas and Miah at the vet on the way to work. They don't open till 8.30 and appointments are from 9am so they will have to wait to be seen. We will have to ask for her to be transferred to a vet nearer as across town before work is impossible.
We have discovered a possible way to keep her from battering the door to be let out; she does not like incense sticks. Douglas has placed a burner just inside the front door. We will see if it works when she is not on the injury list.

Writing

I had a report to write after yesterday's trip to Elgin. 'Tis done. There wasn't much to do, but I futtered around and indulged in all sorts of displacement activity so that it took me hours.
Spag Bol tonight.
Susan and I are going to watch Bad Day at Black Rock this evening - a splendid little Spencer Tracy film from the 50's. 'Little' isn't really the right word, as the film is set cinematically amongst the vast spaces of the American west.
Susan and I are going off in search of a chair for me tomorrow, to replace the big black dead leather recliner. I have my eyes on a £15 charity shop job, and I've also seen a cheap rocking chair (to go with the pullover).
I have seen passing alkys, neds and skanks going to and fro outside (and greetin' bairnies.) About an hour or so I saw a fast-walking ned with his OH ten paces behind trying to keep up and going nip nip nip at him. Ten minutes later they passed again going in the opposite direction. It is cold and damp outside, and tho' he was in an anorak, she was in a sleeveless t-shirt. Presumably anger was keeping her warm, but, i' truth, the calories he saved by dressing properly all went into maintaining the ten pace gap, and she wasn't able to reduce it. Should have had her weetabix. I had mine.
