Life's pretty good, but my home Internet is painfully slow (it timed out a few times trying to get this page open to type in), so I've not been online much out of work.

In work, I can dip into other things, but I usually pick webcomics and some blogs, as they take less time.

What does that actually mean, by the way? There there? Where where, and why why? And how is it different from 'hear hear'? Or is that 'here here'? And where did that come from?

And why do we say 'now now' ('now now, stop that')? Or 'now then'. Now, or then? Make your mind up.

I used to know this guy, well, when I say, guy, anyhow, here here, anyhow, this guy, as I was saying, who I used to know, in the then then, he was, like, well, just this guy, and anyhow, did I ever tell you the one about the swiss cheese hat and the girl? ahh... now then, yesh, this guy, anyhow, oh, no no, he didn't have a swiss cheese hat, not even remotely so, and, well, as I'm slure I didn't say, anyhow, ahh... yes yes... right, here here, now then, this guy, the one without the swiss cheese girl hat, he was, then, as in then then, well, I mean, like in the past, yes, and now then, talkign of which, or, well, ahh. Gratification, in one's own achievements cannot, nor w should, be all that one attains in life. Inner badger-zen, and zenability, through ones own actions, interpritations, fish-isms, badger-ismss and nighthooverismsms, cannot, within itself, here then, be as entirely so forfilling, as that glorious, of achievements... Seeing one's udnerlings, one's students, reach and achieve their own inner badgerability and zen-ability, through the efforts of their own interpritations and readings within that sanctory of the profound and fish-like, and their otter-ability attained, manifold, like a kitchen countertop made in Spain, demonstrably shining forth, like the light of a thousand buckets of eels

Trust me... with this cold I have, you really* don't want me to blow my nose... I'm sure I've produced more than my own body weight in mucus the past week

It is quiet, though isn't it, on here, I mean

pre-Christmas lull? end-of-summer-hols-lull?

Or... everyone is preparing.... getting ready... preparing for that* day... that glorious day, which is surely near now, especially since the discovery, on Twitter, that nighthoover is hiding in Fords gums or... not... of course... Actually the convos are getting so quiet on here, at the moment, I'm very tempted to actually* finish off the entrys I've got unfinished, and get em in to PR, then maybe even write the other entrys I've been meaning to do, since... way back when of course... perhaps deciding to write entrys for h2g2, whilst also considering doing the national novel writing thinggy, and* the h2g2 november journal thing, might be utter insanity... but, never let it be said, that I'm frightened of partaking in a little, or a lot, of utter insanity lettuce spry <

I was pretending to be Neil the other day, from a differnt episode; whilst making my lentil sausage spicey soup/stew, and singing the 'lentil nightmare' song from the Young ones,/"Neil's heavy concept album" damnit... I must dig that album out now

I loved the Young Ones! I miss Vyvyan!

It was brillient, but so few episodes really... though, had they done more, I guess it wouldn't have managed to retain its genious status, and would have goten 'stale'.... a bit like fawlty towers... pure genious, but it'd never have survived goign on and on forver No one seems to do funny comedy shows that have any origionality thesedays.... I still wonder if they'll ever do another Blackadder series... it might just about have enough left in it, to work for one or two more... maybe...

For me, both Fawlty Towers and The Young Ones have dated. Monty Python too, even. I don't feel a need to ever watch Fawlty Towers again. Bottom, on the other hand, I can watch over and over again. Rik and Ade work so well together, on their own. I wouldn't go as far as to say they scale the same heights as Morecambe and Wise or Barker and Corbett, but I think they're one of the best of the modern double acts, along with French and Saunders.

Although they're not exactly new any more, I can pin down three comedy series that I would say are the cream of the more recent crop for laughs, originality and sheer quality - The Royle Family, Early Doors and Black Books. League of Gentlemen should get an honourable mention, definitely for originality, but after seeing it the first time, again, it's not something I feel a need to watch any more.

Ah, Mighty Boosh should be in there too. Perhaps Green Wing too? And I just finished watching something I'd never seen before - The Strangerers. A spin-off from Absolutely, as far as I can make out, and written by Rob Grant.

Speaking of Absolutely spin-offs, Mr Don and Mt George. Again, not new any more, but recent-ish, compared to Fawlty Towers and Blackadder. But very original, very surreal, and very appealing to my sense of humour.

I have to admit though there's a lot of comedy from the 90s and 00s that I'm entirely unfamiliar with such as Peep Show and Armstrong and Miller, and others.

Those will be the unknown unknowns I guess.

Ah, okay. The Strangerers (2000) was an Absolutely production, not a spin-off, although it had a few Absolutely people in it.

And I forgot all about Spaced.

Mark Heap shows up in the weirdest shows. Spaced, Green Wing, Strangerers, Jam, and something called Friday Night Dinner that I could only watch one episode of.
