Wait, that's not strictly true. 'Something else' was one of the options. It's because of something else. It was a joke.

Not so much a superhero, more a super villain: Party Stabbing Man smiley - yikes

I never did care for parties anyway.

An interesting super power. Could come in handy for physics lessons I suppose.

Child Porn Man made the front page of Reddit again today. Same image, same title. And I had the same reaction. I wanted to post it here. So, in Pliny, I scrolled through over 30 pages in your journal trying to find this thread. I got all the way back to January 2013 and decided to switch to Brunel where I can see just the titles and more than 5 entries at a time. And there it was on page one. I missed it on the third page in Pliny. I was probably thinking the thread title was in a different form, more like another superhero name. But then, once I found this, I wanted to be sure that my previous post from Reddit wasn't a repost, so I scanned through and found my earlier post and it was...

So, I shall now be known as Pointlessly Wasted Effort Man.

As a matter of fact I found another journal entry, or rather I didn't find it, at first, because it was yet another one that didn't show up in a websearch - the one about the waterfall.

Heh... as I was scrolling through 30 plus pages of your journal entries, I did notice some repetition of titles. "Oh Bum" takes the lead, I believe. smiley - winkeye

This one only half belongs here. Yes, it's a BBC headline but it's not badly-worded or a superhero-type name. It's actually a rather clever one...

"Sewer was blocked by large Pooh"

One thing I notice on the BBC news website is that, like in this case, the headline on the actual article differs greatly in wording and tone from the one on the main page. Also, the thumbnail image from the front page is for a photo not used in the actual article. More than once I've clicked on a news link just to get a better look or some context for an image on the front page and find different images.

Anyway, I recently learned of a meme similar to this thread. It's called "Florida Man", the world's worst superhero. There are a few tumblr sites, twitter accounts and whatnot.

And yes, I know what you mean about the BBC news headlines/images. In fact it's only within the last few months they've started using decent-sized images in some news stories.

And on a page called The Bigger Picture smiley - rolleyes

"Death tree had untreated disease"

Two things here. Firstly, are there herds (hoards? forests?) of death trees ravaging the land, and has a D-notice been slapped on the media to keep it quiet? Secondly, is the untreated disease a result of NHS cuts and privatisation? I think we should be told.

Of course, the other response is "Good Lord, really? Something had a disease that remained untreated and lead to it's death? If this is news then surely this sort of thing must not have happened before. Disease leads to death. Nope. Definitely news to me."

I too have never heard of such a thing. If this is a common occurrence there should be clinical trials, a government inquiry, resignations, people spending some time at Her Majesty's pleasure!

Putting aside the humour for a moment...
"Dressing gown woman punched by burglars"
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-26968432

Really? "Dressing gown woman"? What does it matter for the headline - the one on the main page as well as the one on the actual story - that she was in a dressing gown? And what kind of sentence construction is that? It's not in the slightest bit relevant that she was in a dressing gown at the time, except maybe within the story itself, and even that's debatable. These BBC headlines are getting pedantically specific in their descriptions. Here's another one:

"Hackney teenager dies in Costa Rica"
'Teenager dies in Costa Rica' or 'London teenager dies in Costa Rica' would be perfectly fine, but narrowing it down one area of London is unnecessary.

smiley - laugh I'm sorry, I do feel bad for poor Dressing Gown Woman, but calling her that in the headline is making me smiley - snork. Bizarre.
