95° seems darn right pleasant compared to anything above 100° on the bike, especially when riding on dark asphalt. It just gets too hot to ride. (Hasn't stopped me from commuting, but did stop me from riding down to Surfside for a run.)

There's just no pleasing some people (Gosho).
Meanwhile I won't bore you with how pleasant it's been in the midwest. Although our apple-picking outing got rained out. So we went here instead:

Soooo... they throw rolls at you? That could be a lot of fun Unless it lands in your soup
One thing I haven't mentioned is the way that mornings and evenings are drawing in. It's dark when my alarm goes off and it's just starting to get light by the time I get up at 7am. It throws me around this time of the year, and in the spring, because my British-conditioned climate clock associates the later sunrise and earlier sunset with colder weather... but it's still warmer than a British summer

They do indeed throw rolls at you. And they don't just stand next to your table and toss them, they lob them all the way across the dining room. It *is* a lot of fun! I don't remember ever seeing any hit the soup. And their fried potatoes are to die for .

Are you allowed to use a baseball mitt?
The weather report from Austin and other places around the world
broelan Posted Sep 20, 2011
That would be cheating
My 6-year-old caught one, can't be that hard. He thought that was the greatest thing *ever*.
In the few times I've been there I've never seen one hit the table, and the vast majority are caught by the intended recipient. A couple have hit the floor. I was thinking broe jr and I should write an entry on the place sometime. Of course, that means we'll have to go back. I thought a good pic for such an entry would be a photo of one of the rolls.

It's creeping towards scorchio again - 97 today. Good grief. And it was so nice when I went to the shops this morning at 8.30.

The temperature here is wonderful. This only happens a couple fo weeks a year, though.

I seem to have missed a day from post 4808. Today, in fact. Does that mean today isn't happening? Has it been cancelled? Am I really doing this now? I could do with another day off
97 yesterday. They're saying 89 for Friday, but upper 90s and scorchio for the other seven of the next eight days I'm taking my two-week holiday in the middle of October because that's usually one of the best times, weatherly speaking, in Austin, but at this rate it's still going to be in the 90s

Thought it felt a bit in here when I got up this morning - the thermometer finally went below 60 last night, by one whole fun-lovin' degree. 93 was the maximum yesterday, although it felt warmer than that when I was sitting outside in the sunshine waiting for three different beer deliveries to show up.

I had desperately trying to avoid turning on the heat yet - it's only September! But finally adjusted the thermostat to 70 and turned the heat on yesterday. I just can't stand getting out of a warm bed into a cold house and then having to go and stand under running water and get wet while I'm already freezing.
Probably it would have been about 65 in the house this morning. A bit too chilly for me - although I know some people like it like that.

As much as I hate the excessive daytime heat of the Texas summer, I love being able to get up and take a shower, and not feel in the least bit chilly when I get out of the shower. Ever since I was a kid I've hated getting out of any kind of water in less than comfortable temperatures. One thing I really miss is having a bath in a warm bathroom in the middle of the winter American baths should be longer. By law. Why isn't it in the constitution?
I think we might have just grazed scorchio today, but not quite made it. More later.

Yep, 99°. I'm told that today is Austin's 126th consecutive day of 90°+, which is a record, and that our total for the year so far is 151. The record is 159 which occurred in 1925. You may recall that our previous scorchio record of 69 days also happened in 1925, and we saw that one off big style. The forecast says that we're going to add two more days to it this week - tomorrow and Monday.
Le sigh.

American baths should be longer length-wise? Or time-wise?
I have a big garden-size tub, so it's very roomy (and has a nice ledge in the corner for setting a drink on). Except that the last few years it's gotten so hard to get out of the darn thing I hardly ever use it anymore.

Oh, length-wise. You should be able to stretch out in the bath. Unless you're a professional basketball player... in which case you can probably afford to get a bath custom made to fit.
How long you stay in the bath is entirely up to you

There'll be no baths while this sort of thing is going on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zFusSczBpQ
Sobering.

Scorchio no. 86 for the year (105°), and 105-or-greater no. 26. 152nd day of 90+, 127th consecutive.

Scorchio no. 87 (104°).
I don't think I have anything left to say about the weather this summer. I've said it all. My dumbfoundedness has gone as far as it can go.
