Scorchio number 57.

No scorchio on Wednesday... but only by 1° so it might as well have been, and that would have been scorchio number 60 for the summer! We're going to make that in the next few days, for sure, and a handful more besides. Once we hit 60 we need nine more to equal the record and five or six more to move into second position. I've no doubt we'll make that, looking at the list of scorchios in the eight day forecast.

Either way, this is still the hottest summer on record as far as average Austin temperature is concerned

I think the highest we've gotten this year was 98. And that wasn't on 18 July when we went to a pool party (only struggled up to about 71 that day, not exactly dippin' weather).

Been nice the last few days, but since I'm media deprived I can't give you numbers. I've got the windows open tonight, though.

You have the windows open in August? We can only dream of such pleasures in Austin, even at night. Let's see... 11pm and 86F. Still, could be worse... could be Phoenix.

Had the windows open at night through a good portion of July as well. It's been insane this year. We hit the 98 back in June.

The invisible anti-rain force field is still active over my little village of Bacliff. We thought for sure we would break our dry spell yesterday with several large thunderstorms heading right at us through the day. Inches of rain fell in areas all around us. We were directly in the path of two separate storms that had severe warnings associated with them only to see them dry up and dissipate just a couple of miles before getting here. We got maybe another quarter inch.

I was wrong. We didn't even get enough rain to register in the gauge.

It's been lovely today. Perfect weather for walking around a festival grounds without thinking you need to shell out $5 for a lemonade at every other booth. We left the windows open this morning, too, and it's still only 77 in the house.

No rain here. There is some on the radar but Austin has its own rain shield.

Scorchio no. 62.

Scorchio no. 63: 105F, and it felt like it.

We were hotter than Phoenix, hotter than Tucson

Scorchio no. 64 (103F). If all the scorchios in the forecast happen as predicted we'll hit no. 67 on Thursday and move into the no. 2 spot for most scorchios in a summer.

Scorchio no. 65 (103). But we had some rain And it happened in the weirdest way. I looked out of my front window and there was torrential, tropical rain coming straight down in stair rods. Looked out the back - nothing. And this whole building can't be more than about 25' from front to back. Eventually it started raining on both sides and it rained for about 15 minutes, but the sun never stopped shining for entire cloudburst.

It's the Rapture. Gotta be.

We had us a pretty good thunderstorm around 6pm... and it started to rain just as I walked up the stairs and put my key in the lock It gave us about half an inch and dropped the temperature at one point to 74 It's back up to 86 now, a couple of hours later.

The forecast has one more scorchio day (tomorrow) and then a string of upper 90s, but it's statistically possible for us to hit scorchio all the way through September, and highly probable for at least the first two weeks of that month.

And I went to bed with the sweet sounds of more rain and some distant thunder in my ears

WOW!... It's actually raining here. Real rain at that.
