And it just stopped.

Friday was out first non-scorchio day in what seems like forever... but only by one degree F so it still felt like scorchio. Stepping out of the door yesterday morning though was far more pleasant than it has been for a long time with a temperature around 75, rather than 79 or 80, and I think it might be the same today - the temperature is 76 right now.

It is. I just went out onto the balcony and it feels heavenly What's more, my a/c hasn't kicked in yet, and there have been mornings when it's started up the moment I switch it on at about 7am. It's ten past eight.

The high today was a mere 96/35.6 with pleasantly low humidity Apparently it's our lowest daily maximum since July 1st!

It just goes to show that everything really is relative. The maximum temperature this afternoon was 95/35, which to some might seem excruciatingly hot, but after the temperatures we've been having lately felt as comfortable to me as a balmy spring afternoon

A mere 93/33.9 today and it felt wonderful. This morning I had to do something I haven't done for a couple of months... I got underneath the sheet. I've been sleeping on top of the bedclothes since these constant scorchio temperatures hit us, but this morning I woke up around 6am and actually felt a bit chilly And it's going to be a degree or two cooler tonight

We warmed up a bit today - 98/36.7, and I hear we might hit 100 again before the weekend before cooling down again to near normal mid-90s. Maybe even a spot or two of rain. That'd be nice.

Scorchio no. 68 (101) on Thursday.

No scorchio today. It got up to 95 this afternoon before some intense storms fired up. At 6pm it was 88F; by 7pm it was 68F! That's the first time the temperature has gone below 70 in at least three months. Camp Mabry got 1.47" of rain in about an hour and a half, but here at Fort Gosho all we got was a few rumbles of thunder. Not a drop of water fell from the sky here.

It hasn't even made 90F yet today But boy is it humid.

Have we seen the last scorchio of the summer? Oh I hope so. The forecast temperatures for the next seven days start at 97 today, going down to 92 next Sunday, and the minimum temperatures start dipping below 70 at the weekend

Little to no rain in the forecast though.

Just checked the Guadalupe river flow rate and it's at an abysmal 56 cubic feet/second. 25 years ago it would typically run between 200 and 300 cfs for much of the summer time. In the last decade or so it's been staying low at 100-200. 56 isn't a river, it's a trickle. No one will be tubing or kayaking it, they'll be boy-scouting on foot.

I've no idea exactly how much because Camp Mabry hasn't recorded any information since 03.51 today. The unofficial statistics for downtown are saying 1.41" for the day so far and it's still raining. This is an amateur reading from about 40 miles north of Austin:

Fourteen inches of rain in 24 hours, and most of that came in a ten hour period, so I'm led to believe. Astonishing.

It's very nearly chilly out there! I just went out onto the balcony to bring in my umbrella, which had been outside drying off after yesterday's rain, and I actually felt a bit cold, even though it's 71/21 right now. So I've kept the balcony door at the back of the apartment open and opened up the window at the front, and I've got fresh air wafting through the place for the first time in a few months At last for maybe 15 minutes before I go to work.

I don't want to jinx it, but could it be the stupidly high temperatures are over and done with? We've had several days of below average temperatures and yesterday was just gorgeous. We could be up in the low 90s again Monday and Tuesday, but the rest of the week looks very nice indeed.

We crept back into the 90s yesterday and we'll be in the same place today, but a cold front is coming through tonight which is forecast to bring a potentially rainy day on both Tuesday and Wednesday, and some delightfully mild temperatures in the low 80s
