Well I must say, the forecast sub-100F days we were supposed to be experiencing this week are doing a very good job of going AWOL.
Monday: 101
Sunday: 100
Saturday: 102
It's also far more humid than before, and the rain has yet to put in an appearance, leastways in Austin. I hear there's been some good soaking in the Hill Country. One good thing though - so far today the sun hasn't been able to break through the 100% overcast sky, which means the roofspace isn't heating up, which means my ceiling hasn't turned into a great big radiator. Yet.

Ah, finally, they put the hot count up: "If we hit 100 today, it will be the 15th 100+ in a row, and the 35th occurrence this year."

We've been getting some rain around here (I just got drenched at lunch).
It's been scattered with some towns getting inches and others (like my little berg) getting fractions.

It has been raining all day in the UK, and we have had a week or more of very heavy downpours punctuated by a few sunny spells. i couldn't cope with your temperatures. In spite of all the rain this is quite comfortable for me Summer it ain't! I think we had that a while back
Take care all,

There's got to be somewhere in the world where summer doesn't mean either 'hot as hades' or 'Noah's flood'!

Probably Idaho. I really wish I could find an article like the one someone told me about that analyzed the safest places in North America regarding natural disasters. All I can remember is that it was somewhere in that area... West of the Rockies, East of the Cascades, North of the deserts. No earthquakes, hurricanes, blizzards, etc. It was a specific area according to this forgotten article.

I'm thinking something more like palm trees, sandy beaches and scantily clad women bringing me cocktails. I can put up with the occasional hurricane in those circumstances

Ah, but you see, following the actual hurricane is at least two weeks without power, in stifling heat and humidity IF you still have a home.
Which reminds me... dmanit, I still haven't ordered a ballistic fabric to make easy to use hurricane shutters.

Is that a cue for me to do the '50 in the morning, 50 in the afternoon' joke?

Rain!
Apparently a cold front is stalled over central Texas and that's enough to fire up some storms. It's done it over Austin this evening and the temperature has dropped from 100 to 88

Normal service has been resumed - 100 on Friday, 104 on Saturday. Today is the 26th of July. That means we've had 25 full days for this month so far. 22 of them have had a maximum temperature of 100F or more and the average maximum for the month to date is 102.1/38.9.
And I got my monthly electricity bill a few days ago
