h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

When I lived in Houston, I had a very cheap apartment. It was once half of another apartment and the tenants in the other half constantly bickered and screamed. I was used to them keeping me up.

But one spring morning around 1:30 or so, the daughter of my other wall-neighbor was staying in her mother's place while she was on Spring Break (mother out of town) and woke me with the sounds of "love".

Heh, I wasn't one to complain about something like that but around 2:30 the boyfriend broke out his acoustic guitar.

After about 10 minutes of that I banged on the wall and yelled, "She already ed you, you don't have to serenade her NOW."

I heard them both giggle but the music did stop.

You know it's summer in Texas when you wake up in the morning, turn on the radio, and the first thing you hear is "It's just coming up to 7am, and the temperature here in Austin is 78 degrees". That's 25.6 in new money. We actually made it up to 98 (37.7) today and now we're under a tornado watch with some nasty-looking storms a few counties to the north. We should hit our first triple digit temperature of the year this weekend.

The aforementioned storms have taken a southerly turn and are headed this way They look pretty bad.

Wow, that was some storm. Two weak tornadoes have been reported in Austin as well as 1.75" hail. I didn't see any of that but there were very many close lightning strikes, and one of these as the leading edge of the supercell passed over http://messinginc.com/images/0000081.bmp

We also got a very welcome 0.9" of rain and a 20° drop in temperature, at least for a while

Bloody hell, we're getting a rerun of last night, almost exactly 24 hours later Another great big leading edge has just gone past and there are intense storms on the radar to the north west, headed this way!

Maybe not. It seems that they're stuck over the hill country and just aren't moving. The folks in San Saba, Mason and Gillespie counties are getting hammered, and there's a report of a tornado. They're getting more than three inches of rain an hour and some places have had eight or nine inches this evening.

We did it. First 100° day of the year. We'd already had several by this time last year, so no complaints on that score I guess.

that is some photo. I don't know how you cope living in those temperatures though. Today is quite hot here, by my standards, at least too hot to cut the lawn

When I got to work, just after dawn, it was a pleasant 80°. In about two hours it will be sweltering.

100° again on Sunday, and the same forecast for the next three days.

101° yesterday, with a heat index of 107°.

Ah, yes... the return of Scorchio!

Four 100° days in a row, and another one likely today. Then a dip down to the upper 90s before more scorchio next week. This is starting to look like a rerun of last summer, when we had something like 50 triple digit days and 90°+ temperatures for something like three months

A mere 101 here today, although I hear that nine out of the last ten days have been 100°+, and there are three or four more of those to come before we sink into the downright chilly upper 90s for the weekend

And we've still got July and August to come yet
