I don't think it was quite the weather event here as it was out West there, Gosho. I didn't hear any thunder and I don't think we got as much rain as we would have liked (drought), but it was quite windy. It woke me a few times this morning. My first indication of strong North winds is some stubborn configuration of the panels around my window A/C that makes a kazoo noise. But last night I was also kept awake by all the odd noises my garage-apartment was making for a couple of hours. I think the decorative claymore in my living room was banging against the wall as the wind gave the place a good push now and then. I kept expecting the plants on my balcony porch to be tossed over, but they withstood it so I'm assuming the wind must have been out of the Northwest. What really kept me from getting sleep was the constant nagging thought that that asssmiley - bleep burglar last hit us on a windy night and I didn't hear him. We've really got to install alarms and cameras soon so I can get some rest and the doggies won't be stuck out in the rain and cold.

I've checked the NOAA page for observed weather at Camp Mabry and it's as if that whole hour never happened smiley - bigeyes And the weird thing is it's the same for all the other NOAA weather stations I can think of along the I-35 corridor from San Antonio to Waco smiley - laugh But according to Burton Fitzsimmons from News 8 we got about 0.7" of rain in the space of 10-15 minutes, and 50mph winds. I hear that trees and tree limbs are down around Austin, but also that there were four tornadoes in OK.

This morning it's calm and there's not a cloud in the sky smiley - bigeyes Gonna be a gorgeous day.

Here we go again smiley - headhurts

Three or four days we made 81/27.2. Over the weekend highs have been in the 50s and 60s (mid teens C) and lows in the 40s and 50s (around 10C). Tomorrow (Wednesday) we have a forecast high of 82/27.8. On Thursday night we have a forecast low of 37/2.8.

Good grief.

The weather here today is partly blah, with chances of heavy undecided later in the day.

We've been having a little spell of... well, spring-like temperatures these past few days. I hesitate there because what's spring-like here (mid to upper 80s F, around 30C) would be scorchio in the UK - in other words, the sort of thing I grew up with. The kind of temperatures we've had (and will have today) would be "Phew wot a scorcher says Londoner Wally Barnes"-style headlines in Britain, even in July and August.

And guess what... a cold front comes through tonight with another tomorrow, and we'll be in the mid 30s again Sunday and Monday morning smiley - laugh

I'm jealous smiley - grr, well a bit, I don't like it hot, but here in the UK we are threatened with another cold spell, and possible flurries of snow next week. The spring flowers are out, hope they don't get spoiledsmiley - doh

Looks like we made 91F/32.8 today. I reckon that broke the record, which I think was around 89.

It felt like 91 too.

Sunday Day: Max 63°, clearing skies
Sunday Night: Min 44°, partly cloudy

Monday Day: 68°, 20% rain, cold front, breezy
Monday Night: Min 47°, mostly clear

It looks like the end of the week might be a good time to do some baking smiley - biggrin And since South by Southwest starts this weekend, and it almost always rains during South by, I'm inclined to believe this forecast smiley - tongueout

We're currently in the worst stage of drought they have on their books - 'Exceptional'. I heard some people saying on the wireless set this morning that it's a 100-year drought; someone else said it's the worst since 1956 and another said the worst since 1926. Thing is, there were nowhere near as many people living in these parts at the time and demanding water for their lawns and their washing machines and their dishwashers. Apart from that squall line that came through a few weeks ago, I honestly can't recall the last rainfall. And I do miss the rain sometimes. This is the best time of the year to be in central Texas though - March and April. The warm spring evenings here are just wonderful smiley - bigeyes And then there are the thunderstorms smiley - wow And the tornadoes smiley - yikes

Here's the official rain forecast for the next five days http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/p120i12.gif

Looks like Austin is in the 1.5" - 1.75" range.

And here's the drought report http://drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html Austin is right in the middle of that dark patch.

One of the last things I did before going to bed last night was to turn off the air conditioning... one of the first things I did when I got up this morning was to turn on the heater smiley - online2long The forecast cold front came through in the early hours of this morning and dropped the temperature from 70/21.1 to 48/8.9. We've had about a tenth of an inch of rain so far but it looks like there's going to be a lot more to come.

It's kind of bad timing for me because Wednesday and Thursday are my two days off (usually - next week is SXSW and I don't think *anyone's getting a day off smiley - sadface) and I have a lot of running around to do both days, including a visit to the 512 brewery to learn a bit about... oh, sorry, I can't tell you that - very hush-hush smiley - tongueout

Oh, I know what you're doing... You're going to the brewery to help Max von Sydow formulate a beer additive that will make the beer drinkers at Octoberfest subject to mind control.

Paul Dooley can't be trusted with such a project. (eh?)

Ah, so you're going there with your four beer drinkingest buddies to challenge the brewery family to a beer drinking contest to because they claimed that your grandfather stole the recipe for the greatest beer and smuggled it out of Germany with your grandmother who they claim was a whore but what they don't know is that the brewery was actually stolen from your grandfather who was the rightful heir. Ja?
