It's really hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it's 70° out there.

And that's one of things about Texas weather I really like smiley - ok Bah humbug smiley - tongueout

There's a 70% forecast for rain after midnight tonight... which is just when I'll be walking home from work following the King Kong midnight shows, so I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if it really does rain this time smiley - cross

I didn't have to walk home in the rain last night smiley - biggrin Nor did we get any rain the rest of the night smiley - sadface

I'm beginning to think that the forecasters are just making these figures up now.

Really cold - in my house smiley - cross Can't work out why, the heating seems to be on. I'm shivering here. I haven't got a fever.

Anyhow, outside it's around 5'C and it was a crisp day today. I know crisp isn't really a term but I think most people know what I mean - bright but cold, wintry trees, glistening ground...

Crisp works for me Jules smiley - smiley Not that we get much of it here, unless it's bushfires of course, which isn't quite what you're talking about. I miss those crisp Scottish winter days, although I really do not miss cold nose, cold toes, cold fingers and ice on the car.

It's a bit hard to believe that Xmas is next week when it's summer. I know exactly what you mean Gosho smiley - smiley Silly thing is that shops have Father Christmas in blow-up sleighs in their windows smiley - huh How incongruous is that?

I know - it's the same here. The weath is sunny and warm, yet every shop and restaurant has snow scenes, snowmen, holly, Christmas trees etc in and on the windows smiley - online2long

No forecast of rain today... so it rained smiley - headhurts Not much - just enough to wet the ground, but it did rain. And they swore up and down that there was no likelihood of rain until the weekend.

It's turned chilly again - currently 50F/10C, and will go down another 10°F or so tonight. It was so warm when I got up this morning that I didn't even need to switch the heating on.

The santas and sleighs are all a reflection of the fact that most of the folk here have their heritage in western Europe. This is a fact that most of them distance themselve from for most of the year (hotly, if challenged smiley - cdouble).

Somehow at Xmas, it's okay to be of northern hemisphere, northern European origin smiley - huhsmiley - huh

Ah, sorry... weather... hot, sunny, thundery clouds but no actual rain today smiley - smiley

We see Austin's forecast on the weather at the end of SBS News each night, Gosh... sorry... BH. I think you should expect rain when they say dry and dry when they say rain

How come they show Austin's forecast? Is it in one of those 'And now some weather from around the world' lists? I wonder why Austin of all places?

There was rain last night smiley - wow Don't know how much cos I got out of work after midnight and couldnn't access the figures cos the daily total on the website had flipped over to Saturday. Looking at the 24 hour radar it wasn't much.

It's pretty cold, dank, grey and miserable out there today. Currently 44F/6.7C. A typical UK November/December day.

It's been sunny all day and the temperature downtown got up to 73°F/22.8°C smiley - biggrin Very breezy though, and no rain. Looks like we'll be ending the year with only about 60% of our average annual rainfall.

On the plus side though, daytime temps for the next eight days are forecast to be in the low 70s F/low 20s C smiley - bigeyes

We equalled some high temperature records and broke some others today. Most recording stations around Austin hit 80°F/26.7°C including Camp Mabry - 80/26.7 (record equalled), and ABIA - 81/27.2 (record broken). Downtown Austin also made 81F. Tomorrow is likely to be the same or a touch warmer. It's not like a summer warm though - as soon as you go into shade, and as soon as the sun goes down, it gets cold. It was pretty breezy again today too.

No records broken today. It stayed pretty cloudy all day long so the sun never got a chance to do its thing, but it was still quite balmy and pleasant all the same smiley - biggrin

Looks like our weather's making the news, but for the wrong reasons smiley - sadface
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4563512.stm

And there's no rain in the forecast for at least a week, as well as maximum temperatures in the 70s all the way through until next Tuesday.

I woke up this morning a little after 7am feeling a bit warm under the duvet. Yurned on the radio to hear something long the lines of this:

"And it's 7.04 on KUT Austin, KUTX San Angelo. We're expecting a sunny and unseasonably warm new years day with highs in the mid 80s. It's currently 65° in Austin".

In January smiley - huh

And still no rain in the forecast.

Mild enough for the snow to have all melted, cold enough to see your breath on the air outside smiley - ok

In a vaguely related aside, we are considering the possibility of a trip to some of the West Coast of the USA...and have been researching the weather there around Eastertime.

I would also like to go to Boston/New England but looks like that isn't first on the listsmiley - sadface

Having spent Xmas sweltering in 38C, it's lovely to have temps in the low 30s and a regular breeze this week.

Mind you, we have got to the part of the year when bedsheets are de trop and a fan going all night is conducive to sleep smiley - smiley And I've spent the last few days at home, wandering around in a sarong at most, then having quick lie-downs on the sofa in front of the cricket to recover from the exertions of wandering around smiley - laugh

As I'm moving house at the weekend, packing is going to be an early morning/late at night job... which won't please my landlady smiley - evilgrin And the move itself will happen before 10am I hope. The thought of lugging sofas, tables and matresses in and out of a van in 33C does not appeal to me at all.

Boston's somewhere I've always fancied Jules smiley - ok Mind you, I think I'd like to go there in the autumn... sorry, the fall... to see the trees as well as the town.
