The weather report from Austin and other places around the world

It's the usual 33C today. Sun with a few cottonwoolly clouds. Higher humidity than of late, so we might even get a rain shower. It rained for 20 minutes a couple of evenings ago; full-blown monsoon downpour rain And the temperature dropped 6 degrees more or less instantly
I'm moving south on Monday/Tuesday and I reckon I'll really notice the difference in temperatures. Get out the jumpers It'll be down to 27C or thereabouts most days.

We had us a pretty darn intense thunderstorm at around 5pm this afternoon Lots of deep reds and purples on the doppler radar. It only lasted about 5 minutes, but a quarter of an inch of rain fell at Camp Mabry, and almost a third of an inch downtown There was a beautiful rainbow almost immediately afterwards as the storm moved north and the sun came out behind it
Spring arrives in Texas at 6.33 on Sunday morning, and I guess it's not too long before the clocks go forward and we start getting those long summer evenings again

It's doing it again, damframmit Ther's a line of thunderstorms sweeping across the area right now - to the north there are some very nice reds (heavy rain) on the doppler radar; to the south there are deeper reds and purples (heavier rain, and hail); right here here in Austin we've got light green and a steady rain
But it's just too heavy to prevent me from going to the supermarket (a ten minute walk)

Camp Mabry (which is about four miles north of GoshoTowers) got half an inch of rain in the storms this morning, but we didn't manage anything like that here, and the airport (which is about four miles south east of GoshoTowers) recorded only one tenth of an inch. There's no more rain in the forecast until... the weekend

What an absolutely gorgeous day today Not a cloud in the sky all day long, and no warmer than the mid 70s F, although it did feel a bit warmer than that out in he sunshine this afternoon. Can't argue with the official figures though I guess
More of the same tomorrow and Friday, then rain and maybe storms for the weekend.

I got home from work after midnight again so I missed the stats for Thursday - that's Thursday But I can tell you that the low was around 60/15 and the high was around 80/27. It started off overcast but the clouds soon burned off, and then the day was mostly sunny. Right now (1am Friday) it's 68/20 and very humid (95%). Could be an uncomfortable night There was no rainfall today, but as I was walking back from the bus stop about 30 minutes ago I'm sure I felt some very light drizzle on my face.

The rainfall figure from Camp Mabry is currently showing zero, but I don't think that can be right. A powerful thunderstorm swept across Austin around 9pm this evening, and although the heaviest rain was to the north of the city centre, we got a halfway decent soaking in South Austin, and Camp Mabry is just to the west of downtown. I guess it just hasn't updated yet.

We've had a deal of rain today! There was thunderstorm (just as I set off for work ) this afternoon, and it's raining right now - has been for about an hour. Looking at the radar it's likely to rain on into the small hours, so there should be some on tomorrow's report too. It was a whole lot colder today than it has been the past few days.

As you can see, there are several gaps in the figures... the damn stats page where I get them from is down
It was downright chilly when I left for work at about 9.30 this morning, with a cold wind blowing the clouds across the sky. But the sun came out soon enough although it didn't warm things up a whole lot, and when I was walking through downtown Austin after the sun had set, it was pretty damn chilly again.

That rainfall total at Mabry *has* to be wrong cos a huge thunderstorm rolled over Austin today at around 6pm and dumped 0.17" of rain downtown. I was watching the radar at the time and the colours were showing that the rainfall was even heavier at the airport, which also is showing zero rainfall in today's almanac
Before the storm our humidity was way up in the 80 - 90% range, but now it's down to a bone-crackin' 28%

Has the weather stopped everywhere except Austin?
It reached 29C at lunchtime here, but has been around 25 most of the day, which is incredibly comfortable for working in At night it drops to around 19C and I actually ended up with an extra blanket one night after it had been cloudy all day and the night temp dropped to 16C
Off to the ocean-side in 2 days' time, where it should be a bit more equitable

I suppose I ought to be including pollen readings too since I've had awful oak fever all week We've had quite a hot week for the time of year - almost made it 90 on Thursday, but no rain.

Hey You've got it hotter than we have right now
Today it's 26C daytime temp max. At night it's dropping to around 18C. Don't tell anybody, but I quite like the cooler nights

Dang it's cold out there today! We made it into the low 90sF yesterday, but a cold front came through in the small hours bringing some rain with it, and cooler temperatures - the normal high for today is 82/28, but we're not likely to get anywhere that - we'll be lucky to make it into the 70s/low 20s, and it's currently 52/11.

At 8am today it was already in the low 80s/upper 20s, and it's forecast to make the upper 90s this afternoon - and I do mean *upper* 90s... almost 100/38 The record for today is 98 at Camp Mabry and and 96 at the airport, while the normal temperature for this time of the year is 86/30.

Yes, we've seriously fallen behind in the rain guage since the last time I was posting these figures here regularly. In fact I can't remember the last time it rained or the last time we had a daily maximum of less than 90/32
And there's no change in the forecast for at least the next eight days.
