When I saw the billboards going up a few years back saying 'MI5, not 9-5' I thought 'That's hugely cheesy, I won't bother'.
I was very, very wrong. Spooks rocks. I've watched the best part of the first three series (not seasons: it's an English programme) in the last couple of weeks and it seriously rocks. The last ten minutes of the last episode of series one had me more tense than I've ever been over a TV drama.
There are highs and lows, and the programme does have some crap moments, but overall it is fab. I didn't think the BBC could do things this good.
Now I've got to get through series four and five before (the thankfully delayed) series six begins.
I don't half miss Tom though.

You aren't the only one who misses him The end of his run was a really powerful episode, with the car chase and the tension. OK, probably some of that tension was to do with him...
I first watched it when I happened upon the episode showing a 'dry run' of a terrorist incident in London. It was the best TV I saw that year. From then on I started watching it

I've become absolutely hooked. Just as I think it's getting predictable they throw a spanner in the works. Mind you, I'm only just approaching the end of S3.

Well I hope all of my above waffle hasn't spoilt anything for you - I'm not sure of series numbers etc.

It's great isn't it?
I was a tad narked when most...

Yes.. Me too, I seemed to miss the earlier episodes and then when I caught up with the series again, half of them had gone!

Is it my imagination or is Spooks ever so slightly more far-fetched than Torchwood?
At least Torchwood acknowledges it's fantasy...

I loved Spooks until series 3 when a few things conspired to stop me from making the effort to get to know the new guys
the dry run of the terrorist attacks in London was, IMO, one of the most powerful episodes of television I've ever seen. Brilliantly terrifying.

Erm...
Just a question...
There is a bloke I know...
A colleague...
He's wondering...
How much credibility would he gain if he admitted that he watches this programme with his wife?

Oh, and that scene with the industrial chip fryer and the student spook...
Cleverly filmed, so as not to actually show anything nasty, but it was possibly the most disturbing bit of TV I had ever seen! I remember the complaints on Points Of View - but as they rightly pointed out, nothing graphic was shown, and the bit in question was on at about 9.50pm, so way past the watershed.

The chip fryer was the moment I though 'Eh up, this is proper good this is!'
Killing off an apparent main character within the first two episodes in a horrendous manner. Superb.

Shame though - she was a damn sight better looking than that Ruth...

You really never know who's going to get it next, but are always fairly sure that things aren't going to pan out to well, In fact, it's a surprise when they all make it through an episode!
