I was thinking of drop-kicking it to the Yikes thread.

Spooks is getting tedious now: Carter's wife just got killed, and I've heard that from here on he has an irritatingly dominant nervous breakdown.
It's turning into a soap opera. Why does this always happen to decent long-running dramas?

That would be OK if the programme was a soap to start with, but it started out as a tense, exciting drama about MI-5, with the personal stuff thrown in to make it even more tense (such as the last ten minutes of Series one, as you mentioned.)
Bring on the political intrigue and tense 'Oh my god, they wouldn't, would they?' stuff!

That's better! Sad end to the previous one (telling the son etc: rather heart wrenching) then opening the next one by telling pushy Americans where to get off!
Marvellous.

I'm bored of Spooks now. Too many ticking bombs and close shaves, too much of what's-his-chops's turmoil. Methinks it might have jumped the shark.

I was into next week's when I wrote it. I'm undecided again now: they seem to be focussing more on a story arc than individual episodes at the moment, which could turn out well.

It's very much on in the background.
