OK, who do we start with?

Hmm. To minimise the spans, I think it's best to ask for one from Canada to Greenland, then Greenland to Iceland, Iceland to the Faroes and the Faroes to Scotland.

Still no good. It flies in the face of American isolationism. It will never catch on.
Besides, think about how much it would cost. It would be a lot easier and cheaper to just drug Lady C and ship her to Blighty in the cargo hold.

How about a cruise? Isn't there a brand new Queen Mary II? Lady C could drive to New York and hop on the boat.

Leo Posted Jul 17, 2006
No, it wouldn't work, the baggage weight limit is around 50 pounds. And even dogs have to be under 100 pounds.
how about ships. Do you do boats, Lady C?
A Hillbilly 4th of July
Hypatia Posted Jul 17, 2006
I think Lady C does ships. I, on the other hand, don't do ships. I do airplanes.

Hypatia Posted Jul 17, 2006
Leo you can ship things overweight. You just have to pay extra.

Lady Chattingly Posted Jul 17, 2006
Lady C. doesn't do ships either. Too much water around them. Lady C. does cars or trains.

healingmagichands Posted Jul 17, 2006
Lady C has lots of company. I know several people who do not do ships and planes, my dear departed mother in law was one. I am so of all the people who are talking about going to Europe next spring.

Leo Posted Jul 17, 2006
I'm sure there's a limit to how much overweight you can pay for planes.
Unless you ship her freight.
For ships, however, there's no limit. But it would have to be a pretty long lasting drug.

Ewan McGregor and that other guy went from London to New York on motorcycles, surely there must be a way. 'Course, they went the long way.

I also hate flying, though I *will* do it when I have to - which thankfully isn't very often. Though obviously my problem is a fear/panic thing, not a full-blown phobia.
Forgot to ask Xantief (from post 119) - had you wanted that photo put up in my photo gallery?

Interesting graphic in National Geographic this month -- lifetime probabilities of how an American is likely to die. You have one chance in 84 of dying in a mother vehicle accident. The only ways higher are cancer, heart attack or stroke. Drowning: 1 in 1,008 Air/space accident: 1 in 5,051 No statistic for trains. You are more likely to commit suicide, fall down, get hig by a car, or shot than die by drowning or in an airplane. You are marginally more likely to die by drowning than by fire/smoke (1 in 1,113)
I know, I know phobias don't care about statistics.
Interesting: only 1 chance in 340,733 to die by a fireworks discharge. Why are they billed as so dangerous?

Flying is actually a safe form of travel. Safer than driving. And when going overseas in whichever direction, it is so much faster that I can't imagine taking a ship. They taks so long that most of your vacation would be spent just getting there and back.
Key: Complain about this post
