in edinburgh. how nice is this city? its very very nice. much nicer than london. better city centre for a start and not so big. and the closing time is so damn civilised. 11 oclock is about 3 hours too early. here, i can be in bed bfore im actually turfed out.
V2001 and one was brilliant. i lost my mobile crowd surfing to muse who are orgasmic. all the others i saw were cool too, especially the turin brakes and the avalanches and phoenix and placebo and graddaddy and coldplay and starsailor and all the others. wow.
oh and happy birthday, although its slightly belated.

Edinburgh is lovely, as it says in Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman: "It [the Arrangement] meant that Crowley [the demon] had been allowed to develop Manchester, while Aziraphale [the angel] had a free hand in the whole of Shropshire. Crowley took Glasgow, Aziraphale had Edinburgh (neither claimed any resonsibility for Milton Keynes but both reported it as a success)." I live in Glasgow. Ho hum.
V always seems like a very... civilised festival. And generally cleaner. And I'm allowed to go to Gig On The Green now, butonly on Sunday, and I'm not allowed to wear a skirt, so that and my fishnets will be smuggled out of the house in my bag.
So it was good results all round then. Are you going to uni? if so, where? My best mate of 14 years just found out that she got into St Andrews to do medicine. Yay. She's my excuse for taking a holiday in St Andrews every second weekend.

for civilised read commercialised. apparently they have relatively clean for festivals toilets. im going to glastonbury next year. thus, i wont set foot in a toilet if the above is true. and everything was damn expensive. but *quiver* muse. *quivers some more*
i took my ASs...the first half of A levels, so im going into the upper 6th next year...im 17 too, see? uni is probable, oxford hopefully. to do theology and philosophy. no, i dont want to be a priest.
smuggling fishnets and skirts. how very rebellious. are you going to smuggle in a pack of fags or, like, a bacardi breezer or something?
who is going to the gig anyway?

Ooooh, My mum's cousin and her mates and 'taking' me (and abandoning me, probably) to go and see Travis, so i'm meeting some friends (well, two) there to see King Adora, Green Day, The Strokes and Idlewild. And my mate Krystal went to Leeds last year and went to the toilet twice in three days and slept in the car with her dad and two of his mates cos they couldn't afford a hotel and refused to camp.
And I have a very strict mother (put it this way, i'm not allowed out after seven o'clock unless I have adult supervision, and only then if it's a responsible adult (ie. my aunt) and I get to about two gigs a year. I even work in the same office as mum so she can keep an eye on me.) I'm not allowed to wear the skirt because I'll be out "in the dark" (ooooh! Scary!) and there's too many thugs about, apparently. You'd think it was up round my waist or something but it's not, it's knee length. If she even thought I'd go near alcohol i'd probably never be allowed out of the house again. Hopefully she'll be asleep by the time I get back. God knows what life will be like when I get to university.
I went to a Philosophy day at Glasgow uni cos I was thinking of studying it, and it was full of pretentious t***s and Manics fans talking about Alice in Wonderland. Not that i'm suggesting you belong to either of these groups (well, I wouldn't mind if you were a Manics fan, just not this kind) and i'm all for studying philosophy, but the rest of the students make it not worth the effort, so I'm doing Film&TV Studies and Classical & Celtic Civilisation instead.

that is ridiculous! have you tried sneaking out or something? what happens when your 18? what then? im now very glad to have my mum, who will simply help me to aim for the bowl when i get in. i must have said that before, but ill say it again. so i feel for you.
if your going to leeds, queue REALLY early for the strokes. i cannot stress this enough. you may even have to leave before eels finish. which would be blasphemy if it werent for the strokes. oh yes, you dont know the eels. they are good. GO AND SEE THEM.
and no offence, but the sorts of thugs shes talking about tend to leave the more gothic types such as yourselof alone (this is not to patronise you or anything...nor am i insinuating that your some kind of mansun fetishist or whatever...but fishnets arent teenybop gear are they?)
the way to survive uni will be to go to one miles away like reading or warwick or whatever. then she cant get at you
idlewild are very good live. and with a name like roddy woomble, you cant fail to like the singer.
i think i shiould set the record straight here:
1) I'm not pretentious
2) I aint a t***. depending on who you ask
3) I aint a manics fan either
im only doing philosophy cos its something i can do, and doesnt really require all that much effort. all the other subjects i could do i dont want to. this is basically the only one of my alevels id consider following up cos im too lazy to do a proper subject.
it really depends on your views, if you reckon that NHS glass leather jacket wearing people with flares are pretentious, then im guilty as charged (i dont wear the glasses or the flares, but basically you know the type) - but i dont discuss alice in wonderland with complete strangers to show how intelligent i am.

Ok...
King Adora were amazing, The Strokes were amazing, Green Day were amazing and I was heavily sedated by Travis. I'm completely and utterly in love with one of Chloe's mates that I met for about 2 seconds on Sunday but is divine in every way. But i'm not allowed a boyfriend.
I'm going to Glasgow uni and living at home (gaaaaaaaah!)but I'm used to my mum by now.
I wore the fishnet tights and was approached by a blushing 14 year old boy who told me they were really cool then ran away. No thugs approached me but a few weirdos did and we got rid of them quick enough.
And I haven't eaten anything for two days and all i've drank is Smirnoff Ice and a hot chocolate yesterday afternoon.
I don't believe anyone here is pretentious, and he Manics are ace.
Will that do?

It was so not fair I really wanted to go...stupid bloody verprotective parents!
I'm not even going to get to go to Braemar Night! I live like 20 minutes fae town and my parents are going to let me but I won't be allowed to drink anything and my friends are all planning on getting slaughtered!
It's not like I was even planning on drinking! My friends were planning on getting me pissed but it's rediculous. Therefore I've sad I'm not going because I don't have the money as well.
Stupid bloody season I'm going to be broke until Christmas! (Lots of family members and friends therefore have to save everything and can't spend birthday money until after christmas either)
Ahh venting anger about money problems is good. Also the lack of money means I can keep a good list of CD's that I want (King Adora...Fiona Apple...the Greenday best of album Woohoo can't wait for that to come out!
Thatlassies albulm I was on about has come out Nerina Pallot...very good!

curse you for seeing these bands. i trust you went and saw eels. you went and saw eels. didnt you? hmm?
but you cant go to a festival and not get the squits. why didnt you eat anything. they usually have a tasty array of fried foods and overpriced beverages. cup of flat carling for £2.80 anyone? yum.
not allowed a boyfrined? is this the evil matriarchical junta speaking again? that is nuts. insane. damn her eyes and do it anyway . the sweetness of young love. and hurrah for fishnets! and dont tell the parents about the girl that got raped in her tent at reading.
parents arent letting you drink anything? you have to think about this:
1) why did you tell them what you were going to do? learn in future.
2) drink early, wait for the effects to wear off enough to pass as hyperactive - easier than youd imagine. try to reign in the goodnatured urge to hug everyone and confess all. do not offer to help with the washing up.
3) drink far too much. get busted. what are they going to do anyway?
4) become teetotal (not recomended)
my advice is good. heed it. and then drink yourself into a stupor and stay at a friends house.

She knows when I've been drinking. She can actually smell vodka off me. It's creepy. And we had a big discussion about it last night and i;'m not allowed to have a boyfriend because it will interfere with my studies (yeah right) but that's not stopping me trying to find out everything I can about a certain person.
And i only went to Glasgow Green and only on the Sunday, so eels weren't playing that day. And i wasn't hungry. I can't eat unless i'm hungry cos my throat closes up, that's why I can't eat breakfast (plus, i'd spent all my money on a King Adora t-shirt). But I've made up for it since then, trust me.
Everyone should buy the King Adora album. It is fabulous and has a CD-ROM section featuring no less than five videos.

Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Aug 29, 2001
ah...thats why...i thought youd gone to the sunday of leeds...
its surprisingly easy to smell people who have been drinking. either theyre too far gone to notice that they reek, or they spray themselves with DO and chew too many mints. and, of course, the stumbling and slurring is always a dead giveaway.
and another thing, theres nothing a boy will like better than someone obsessive about him. do something really romantic: carve his name in your arm...tattoo it on your forehead or just make a drunken pass at him. all will work. well, they would for me.
it has no fewer than five videos. no fewer. please remember that
King Adora is about number six on the list, after DJ Shadow, Zoot Woman, the white stripes, strokes and hooverphonic, purely on the strength of suffocate.

Claire interviewed Zoot Woman on tv the other day...
I probably won't get to see him much, and considering the common link between us is my friend Chloe, who also fancies the pants off him, I probably don't have much of a chance. And my mum might object to me carving things into my arm again, I've already been through and gone past that phase.
And if we're going to be anal retentive here then you really should have an apostrophe in "you'd", "it's" and "they're" since they're all abbreviations

Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Aug 30, 2001
passed the carving stage eh? well this might work, next time you see him, fall to the floor and grasp hold of his ankle. dont let go until he promises to go out with you. and dont worry...therell be other skinny trannie wannabes for you to obsess about later (nah, i dont mean that )
who is this claire, and why is she so lucky? i am so full of loving for those crazy guys. in a purely platonic manner, you understand. theres something about cheesy 80s tributes that really gets me going...
actually, yours was bad english. mine was just typing abbreviation...i can use apostrophes. i just choose not to
and i have one thing more to say: mercury rev...phwoar.

get well soon.
Claire is one of my best friends: she was in my class at school but left after 5th year to go straight to uni instead of staying for 6th year like I did. She's also the editor of my fanzine. She's very forward and basically sucks up to everyone within the music industry. Somehow, she managed to get a job on German tv over summer by going over to interview one of the existing presenters. The fact that she can speak german also helps. She's doing german Top Of The Pops on Friday. Let's kill her now.
Sent my beloved an e-mail (after trawling KA messageboard to find his e-mail address). Got one back. Carrying out mini e-mail conversation now. He lives in Dundee though, which is a bit far away. I think he thinks i'm a bit psychotic though. He's right, but I didn't want him to know that straight away.
