Today's news is not good. Ian's cancer is inoperable, already spread to his liver and pancreas. He has a year, at best.

Thank you for your continued prayers and thoughts, it does help.
I am determined to make this the best year of Ian's life.

GB, words fail me. I am sending positive thoughts your way. I hope Ian has a bucket list that will allow both of you to make the best of your time together.
Thinking of you.

I'm so very, very sorry. I know this is different for everyone but I know this one first hand and if good thoughts can send strength, that's what I'm sending. I'll be sending them often as you will be in my thoughts often.
Make it a good year but don't feel bad about bad days that either of you have. It's natural and I think it's important that Ian has chance to rant and you have chance to cry, together if possible. That's what I took from my journey, anyway.

Thank you everyone, it means a lot and I am spending my time now concentrating on Ian, (while still caring for my mother). Things are not going well at Castle Hill. He hasn't eaten anything solid since the weekend, he is bloated, is constipated, in pain and generally feeling bad. He can only leave the bed to go to his toilet for a pee, can't even walk around the ward (like we've seen the other patients do) - and Ian is a good walker. He walks miles normally! We were expecting him to come home yesterday but were told on Monday's visit that that wasn't going to happen. He had a CT scan to check for any blockage while we were there. Today they are going to put a feeding tube into him and chatting with him last night he seems to think he will be discharged Thursday but I have a feeling it won't be before next week. And this is without the "palliative chemotherapy" (which sounds to me like an oxymoron). I fear the time we have left is limited and the good quality days will be few and far between. I know I should be hopeful but I know the reality of this disease and high expectations can be crushed - I remember what my poor Dad looked like at the end and I just want it all to go away

Ian knows he's still a lucky man! He's got an standing with him and THAT gives him strength to fight on.

Ian is home although he is complaining of pain in his neck and struggling to swallow
I had a sneaky read of his hospital discharge letter today. This is the actual wording:
Metastatic adenocarcinoma of oesophagus abandoned due to extensive intra-abdominal/peritoneal spread. Creatinine 74.
I understood some, but not all. Luckily Helga the cancer nurse is calling on him tomorrow afternoon so I can do Mum's shopping in the morning and then go to his house with my list of questions
