Mascara and lipstick (and make-up remover) are the only cosmetic items I am taking do they have to go in the "little plastic bag" (is this your own or provided by the airline?) I am taking 3 250ML bottles of sun lotion, so it'll be a rather large little bag...

You should bring your own transparent plastic bag. They do provide them at most airports, but will charge you for them. £1 is a typical price.

Yes, and you provide the little bag yourself (I use the Tesco resealable food bags)
I think 250ml is too large for hand luggage liquids - you shoudl pack those in your checked-in bags. Or else just buy some out there.

EU Regulations:
"Containers of 100mls or less of liquids, gels, pastes, lotions and cosmetics may be brought through the passenger security screening points at all EU Airports. In addition, these items MUST be presented at the passenger security screening point in a transparent re-sealable bag of no more than one litre capacity, 20cm x 20cm. The rules apply to all liquids/gels/pastes such as water and beverages, aerosol cans and toiletries such as toothpaste, shaving cream, hair gel, lip-gloss and creams. Capacity must be clearly indicated on each container."

Just checking: my 3 x 250ML bottles of sun lotion can go in the main suitcase going in the hold??

Yes, but make sure to put them in a number of plastic bags to guard against leaks, as suitcases are literally flung from the hold of the plane onto the baggage trolleys below.

I have fond memories of Andalucia so I know you will enjoy yourself.
I had hoped for a holiday in Spain this year but had to opt for
double-glazing instead.
Boring I know but the old windows were rotten.
Any way, I wish you a great time.

So whereabouts in Andalucia will you be? Inland? Coast?
http://www.andalucia.com/intro.htm
I see that there are 500 miles of coast of which 70% are sandy beaches.
I like those odds

Deodorant has to go either in the see-through bag, or in your suitcase.
I've never had any trouble with either nail scissors or nail file in my .

If you don't need it on the plane (and it's not vauable or fragile), put in in your checked luggage.

Only the barest essentials will be with me on the plane, everything else is being double- and triple-bagged in the main suitcase in the hold.
Paily I hopefully won't be going anywhere near a beach, we'll be sight-seeing and attending events planned by our hosts

This is terrific!
You will be in Don Quixote's neighborhood.
Also, perhaps you will see an Imitador de Elvis!
(really, see? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNcqi8aegmU&feature=related)
Does it get any better?
